    Rotec Pro Downhill Resto-Custom Build

I have some parts. Send me a PM and let me know what you need. The only other source is eBay or classifieds on retrobike and pinkbike etc. Very rare to find stuff though.

Thanks for the words of appreciation. If you like this restoration, you might like the downhill frames I am fabricating. One of them will be debuted at this years North American Handmade Bike Show (NAHBS) this February 22-24. It's called the Oxide Cycles Valkyrie.

    Rotec Pro Downhill Resto-Custom Build

Thanks everyone for the comments and encouragement. With the loss of income and medical bills related to my broken ankle, I would entertain offers to purchase this bike. Send me a PM if you are seriously interested.

Yes, Lock3 is what I meant to type.... I'm walking and doing short bike rides, but have yet to build up enough strength to get rid of the lurch in my stride. I exercise it every day. I hope to be back on the moto banging whoops pinned in 3-6 months from now.

BobCatMax, thanks for sharing your photos. They were an inspiration for this build. Your bike is the same generation and color that I raced for three years. I wish I could have found the handlebar clamps you have (or the shorter versions). It would have saved me some work!

White Brothers has equipment to remove them which includes specialized clamping tools and a torch to heat up the bonding agent. They say it's 50/50 they will get the dropout off or destroy the parts trying.

Update If anyone is wondering why there has been such a long gap since I updated this project, it is because I broke my ankle in three places. Broke the tib and fib racing the Red Bull Final Descent 12 hour downhill race. I had done 81 laps in 12 hours 55 minutes and was on my last race lap...

    Rotec Pro Downhill Resto-Custom Build

I sourced the bearings from enduroforkseals.com Because of the existing bores in the frame/link/swingarm being slightly larger than ideal, the chrome rod I used for the inner bearing races is slightly smaller than ideal. To do it right you will need to do some custom ground and hardened...

    Rotec Pro Downhill Resto-Custom Build

This project got put on hold. My work schedule has been brutal (70 hours a week) and any free time goes to riding or vegetating. The bike WILL be finished at some point, eventually.

Thanks for your support on this! This bike is primarily for illustrating the design capabilities of my company, but I do plan to sell a few of them starting next year. The stainless is a challenge to design with. Raw materials in the right grade, size and shape can be difficult to find...

    Rotec Pro Downhill Resto-Custom Build

So here is my excuse for being so slow getting this bike together: I'm applying for a financial grant to help develop the frame building side of my bike shop. If you have an interest in vintage inspired yet fully modern bikes (XC, DH or otherwise) and a facebook account, swing over to...

Progress Update Sorry to keep you guys waiting so long. I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm! I'll let the pictures do the talking: I'm pleased with how everything is coming together. I was going to do "KAYABA" decals on the fork, but the gold ano turned out a very Ohlins color that...

    Rotec Pro Downhill Resto-Custom Build

Hang in there folks. A progress update is near. I just got the fork legs back from White Brothers last Friday. I worked through the weekend and probably working late every night this week. But I'll try to get a few more bits bolted on in between paying jobs and post up some pics.

White Brothers was shut down for a week because of the Sea Otter Classic race. Eric said he was going to build my fork today. If so, I'll be able to do more assembly on the bike in a about a week.
