    Eroica's coming to the UK

Ugo I've been in contact with the organisers about this as I had been promised £55 too. Apparently they've had issues with their lists and the booking engine. If you e-mail them they are going to sort this out on Monday. This was confirmed on Twitter this lunchtime.

    Eroica's coming to the UK

As long as you are done before about 2 in the afternoon when the masses head out to Bakewell to buy a bag of chips you'll be fine !

    Advice on Groupset

No, it's not. I happened to be logged onto t'Ebay and had a look for you. I used to own one though BITD I remember buying it component by component each month out of the wages from one of my first jobs. It looked the business when I had the full set. Why oh why did I give it away !

    Eroica's coming to the UK

I agree the price is high, but if you view it as three days camping which is included in the price it ain't that bad knowing how much our local campsites charge. As I've said before they are trying to make a profit, but a lot of hard work and money has gone into organising it. Even if you...

    Eroica's coming to the UK

I think you'll find they do - most of them have do l'Eroica several times and own retro/vintage bikes themselves.

    Eroica's coming to the UK

At the end of the day, the organisers, although all cyclists, are trying to run the event as a business and make a profit. I think I would not be doing it myself except it is on my doorstep, so is more viable than a trip to Belgium or Italy. Plus it's something I want to do - I don't do many...

    Eroica's coming to the UK

They have organised in the past include the La Squadra Hot 100, Rapha Giro Ride, Ride of the Falling Leaves Strines Challenge in conjunction with Out of the Saddle (which is the Downing Brother's charity). Marco who is one of the organisers owns Gusto Cycling: http://www.gustocycling.com/

    Eroica's coming to the UK

I'll probably be doing it even though I can cycle along the majority of the route any time. The start is only 10 miles from my front door so is considerably cheaper than a trip to Italy or Belgium (much as I wish I had the time and money to do these too). It is pricey, but I'm sure it will be...

Retro bicycle brands that didn't survive

Simplex - gear shifters that were the weapon of choice during the early/mid eighties and marmite derailleurs - you either loved or hated them. Maillard - quirky hubs that required a special tool - swallowed up by Sachs who morphed into Sachs. Gipiemme's still knocking around - a lot of there...

    Alternative to gatorskins?

Ran Rubino Pro tech's last winter to save a little weight (was running Gator Skins). I've not had a puncture on them yet. I've got Open Corsa Pave's on my summer bike which are meant to have a good level of puncture resistance - which is lucky because they are a pig to get on my rims !
