New wheels for Raleigh Quadra (1987)

I have much the same problem, although my Raleigh Quadra is a later 7 speed version. Front wheel is missing and the rear is very rusty. I have spare modern wheels so I'm hoping this is going to solve my problem. http://www.halorims.com/products-detail ... e=road&c=J

Explain the UK scene, in your words, your history

Back in the faded Kodachrome colours of the late 70s I had a single speed Triumph, bought for me to grow into and by the start of the 80s I had. By now the Triumph had lost its chain and mudguards but it had gained the knobbliest tyres I could find in the bike shop at the top of Shields Road and...

    Blueing..Any American cousins in?

I've used cold blueing paste before, it's ok for touching up but I think it would be difficult to get a nice even finish with it, although the streaks could be part of the appeal. I'd also agree that blueing wouldn't be up to the job, guns generally get cleaned and oiled everytime they're used...

    Hi Retrobikers

Thanks for the warm welcome, I think you're all spot on with the bottom bracket on the Scott, I'll take some pics and put them up for suggestions, the old one feels a bit gritty and is probably the original so over due for a change. Not sure what the Diamond Back shifters are, they were...

    Hi Retrobikers

Cheers, the Ascent is back on the road, just need to get the front gear shifter working, I intend to use it for commuting as soon as the weather picks up. I really like the bike and it has alot of memories attached. It rides well although it might just be because I am so familiar with it. I...

    Hi Retrobikers

Hi all Thought I'd say hello, I came across the site a few weeks ago, signed up to ride the ctc this year and decided my old Diamond Back Ascent was the tool for the job. I've had the bike from new (1990ish?) and used to use it regularly commuting, touring and off roading on it. The bike is in...
