Re: you definitely can make a great cross country rig out of that. I converted my 857 to 1x10 modern deore XT and replaced the shocks with Risses..and its awesome. super light, handles like a go-cart..super rigid front end / steering. you also could put a57 rear end on that..proflex team bikes...

Re: looks GREAT...but a few suggestions... -a few random parts from the 2000s -weld a disc brake tab to the frame? -bar ends on a riser bar? -chain tensioner? -double clamp fork? Don't get me wrong it is great as is!

Re: Well this is done...very happy with it. I found a near NOS Marinoni MTB which gave up its pristine M900 Group / Wheelset. The seatpost part was machined out of Aluminum and polished..fits perfectly!

Re: its done in storage for winter now..here is last pic. since then i have fitted the black ano arms and wired it up..my wife loves it!

Re: Hey Jamis I can report that the union front and Exceltoo rear drums on mine have unbelievable, disc brake like stopping power..both have nos pads and are rebuilt. cant speak for downhill fading however...yet
