1989 Kestrel MXZ carbon fiber bike

Re: Re: We contemplated going back to the original specs but it already had the suspension fork and we didn't really have an appropriate rigid fork. It is also representative of what we all did back then, upgrade as newer/better parts came out. Plus, we already have a nice original example @...

1989 Kestrel MXZ carbon fiber bike

The original owner of this bike purchased a MXZ in 1988 which cracked behind the bottom bracket.  The original frame was sent back to Kestrel under warranty.  It arrived back at Kestrel, in Watsonville, CA, the same day as the Loma Prieta earthquake struck which cause extensive damage in the...

    1986 Slinghshot

The first Slingshot bikes were BMX models which started with quad top tubes to anchor the "down tube" cables. The first mountain bikes, in 1985, used a similar frame style which was then simplified to the dual top tubes in 1986. Each year or two found further frame evolution with different top...

5 vintage MOMBAT bikes in 20 Anniversary BIKE mag

Actually, in the US the were pretty darn popular on high end bikes. The Manitou and Ritchey had the wheels on them when we acquired them so they are "original" to the bike. The Trek came to us as a partial bike and we did put the wheels on it........just seemed to fit the carbon theme of the bike.

5 vintage MOMBAT bikes in 20 Anniversary BIKE mag

That was bike #6 and the only one we didn't have. It would be nice to have one but they still seem to bring a premium price and we just haven't found the right one yet.

5 vintage MOMBAT bikes in 20 Anniversary BIKE mag

A couple of months ago, BIKE magazine sent a photographer out to take pictures of some of our vintage bikes for their 20th anniversary issue. We provide 5 of the 6 bikes for the "^ odd bikes that awed" feature. Each bike was a full page. They shot 16 bikes and some detail shots so their may...

1991 Legacy Ovation 2 wheel drive mountain bike

Yep, one of those ideas that pops up every now and again. This one is from 1991 and uses what is basically an oversized speedometer cable to drive the front wheel. And in case you were curious, no, it doesn't work very well! More pictures and details @...

1992 Mountain Goat Road Goat, Campagnolo (warning: road cont

Nice vintage Road Goat, circa 1992, with 1995 Campagnolo Record components. Paint is in nice condition and it is an interesting combination of colors and pattern. For anyone that follows vintage bikes, the original owner of this bike was recently looking for it. He leant it to a relative who...

    Schwinn Bomber/Klunker bike, circa 1979

The old seatpost clamps weren't very robust and the Schwinn seatposts were undersized and prone to bending. Guess you wouldn't be raising or lowering the saddle too frequently!
