    1980 Raleigh Magnum

Well worth doing up. Ive rebuilt one form just a frame and forks with some nice bits, tried to keep it relatively period correct too. Thread here: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/1979-raleigh-magnum.460340/#post-3385732

A question for the Carlton enthusiasts

I believe they might have in the 30s when Fred Hanstock was still in charge.

    1951 Carlton Massed Start

This was already done and re chromed too. It’s a very light 531 DB tubed frame. Very light for the time, headset lugs hand cut by Bob Keeling.

    Carlton unknown

The dating is correct for this one, if you check out the Carlton Facebook group we have pretty much all the catalogues and printed work for the maker, they can be downloaded as PDFs. Check the catalogue form about 1951 they may be of help. More pics of the frameset would help, do you have the forks?

    Lovely but...

Ive seen this bike being offered before, a sad case of a well-meaning mis-guided owner trying to get their money back on a frame restoration/repaint/re-chrome. The colour scheme was used on the Criterium c1971/72 and applied to this build is not bad at all, however as stated it goes a bit...

    Carlton Chrome Frame query

High end stuff of the very late 60s/early 70s was mainly Flyers, Contre La Monte, Professional and Giro models. This frame looks earlier.

    Carlton seat post diameter

These should normally be around the 1" mark and take a fairly common seat post size as the tubing is only carbon steel like Truwel. Have you checked the inside diameter of the seat tube? I use a bit of light grease on mine when easing in a seat post.

    Carlton cycles worsop

There should be a 6 digit number on the rear LHS drop out, sadly the 68-72 period is hard to pin down exact build dates. If its a 71-75 model the original paint would have been poly aqua green

    Carlton cycles worsop

    Most probably a Continental, c1971-75
