    Joe Waugh bikes.

I understand that Joe Waugh and Dave Yates branded frames and bikes were, back in the 80’s, sold via M Steel Cycles in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. I have read that Dave Yates is credited with having built bikes with both names but his output must have been quite something if he is responsible for all...

I think I know what the problem was.

Well, I say problem only because that’s what the vast majority of my acquaintances say when they comment on my bike collection. To be fair to them it is rather a problem insomuch as the shed looks like a hastily packed suitcase and not putting one’s weight against the door when opening it could...

    (Yet another) Ellis Briggs.

I’ve always been in to classic British steel road bikes. It took me a while to register Ellis Briggs on my radar. It was a frame bought on this very forum that switched me on. I’m eternally grateful to whoever it was who allowed me to buy it. Sorry, I can’t remember, fellow Retrobiker. Several...

    STI shifter stuck.

I’m looking for some suggestions as to how to unstick a RSX 7 speed shifter. I’ve come across this issue many times with older Shimano and spraying loads of GT85 in the workings does the job every time. Not this one, oooooh no. It’s from the Cannondale featured on this forum. The bike has prob...

    1989 Denis Field

Those of you unfamiliar with this builder’s name are not loosing their marbles. This is the only mountain bike Denis ever built. The story goes back to 1987 when I was a confirmed roadie and was given my brothers Ridgeback 501. Competent but flawed it did me til I moved to Cornwall where the...

    Cannondale R500 RSX

You know how it is, every now and again - usually at a time when N has gone way beyond N+1 and even you have been questioning your (own) sanity and you wish your shed had elasticated walls - along comes a bike in the free ads that slaps you in the face like a bit of home made banoffee pie. Such...

    Top that.

Call me mad as a bucket of frogs if you will but I reckon my present haul of fifteen fully functioning ready-to-ride adults bikes in a 8x8ft shed is going to be hard to beat. Anyone else have any stories of tardis-ian bike storage?

    So, there I was…

….minding my own business, having a cuppa after a ride (as you do), and I get Messenger pinged by a older chap in my bike club. “Pete, he says, I have a friend with some old bike tools he’d like to pass on…no cost to yourself” ‘Oh, no’ I thought. ‘Another offer of some manky, useless...

    Joe Waugh/Dave Yates/M Steel

I’ve always been under the impression that these brands all came from the same workshop. Dave Yates has always been a frame name of repute but to what extent was he responsible for the other marques, if at all, and is every Yates Yates-Built?

    Who and when?

Can anyone remember this brand and who was responsible? Pretty sure it was early eighties and maybe something to do with Madison or Orbit. Can anyone put me straight?

    Orange-ish

Not content with two ongoing projects I went for a third (Well, the other two are road bikes so...). A rather tired looking Clockwork now resides in the shed of bikely delights. Pretty much everything bar the frameset, stem and bars is being binned as it’s f f f foobarred and somewhere [rummage...

    Time....for something new.....

Well, for me, anyway. It’s actually a few years older than me. Soon after I got into cycling I had a ride on a spaceframe Moulton and hoped I’d own one soon. Forty years later I have a project. It’s a very early one, apparently. I’m in the process of sucking as much info into my tiny head as I...
