Strange frame - mix of old and newer fittings

I just got a frame and fork from the recycling centre ('the tip' in British parlance). The VIN (we have these for bikes here in Denmark, since the 40s) suggests it is a Centurion (the Danish brand, not Japanese one) from 1987. BUT...it has 120mm rear spacing; fittings for nutted brakes; and no...

What split-seat tube bike is this?

This interesting steed is for sale, but I don't know who made it? It's not a Mecacycle, or a Paletti, or a Rigi - I think it is French, but can't say for sure. Does anyone recognise it? Thanks

    Bernardi cycles???

Not 'De Bernardi' but just 'Bernardi'. I've seen them about, here in Denmark, but I've just picked on up - a late 90s model made of Columbus Altec, with Bernardi stamped dropouts. A Google search returns almost nothing. The frame declares 'Hand built in Italy' but I don't know much else. Does...

Wanted Cap for Campagnolo aero water bottle

As the subject says, I am looking for a cap/lid for the aero water bottle that Campagnolo offered in the 80s. Thanks!

    Gear shifter bosses too big?

I have this late 80s (?) Giant Speeder and I can’t fit any D/T shifter onto the bosses? I’ve tried Shimano and Suntour and none of them fit. Am I missing something - was there more than one size?

What year is this 80s(?) Giant Speeder?

From the old style logo, it's pre 1990; the components are all over the place, so they don't help; and there is not a single picture of this particular paintjob on the internet (that I can find). So, any experts know the year? Thanks!

    IDing Faggin frames

I just picked up a very cheap and very tatty bike. The frame is Faggin - pantographed on the seatstay caps and bottom bracket, with an 'F' cutout in the (ordinary looking) bottom bracket, and little 'f' cutouts in each lug. 130mm rear spacing, d/t shifter bosses and under stay cable routing...

Help please! - Alternatives to 7sp Suntour Accushift Plus freewheel

I've just picked up a great condition 1990 Centurion Radius, with (yup!) a Suntour Radius groupset. Perfect, except that the previous owner, wanting lower gears, has swapped the rear mech and freewheel. The rear mech isn't an problem (I have 3 others to choose from), but the current freewheel is...

NOS Suntour XCD 6000 threaded (freewheel) hubs

I've just acquired a set of NOS Suntour XCD hubs, in with a box of GPX stuff. They are the freewheel, not freehub, type, 100mm front and 130mm rear. They have QR spindles, but no skewers. Does anyone kmow what they might be worth - I am in Denmark, where eBay isn't really a thing, so I need a...

Replacement freehub body for Shimano 5501

As the title suggests, I have some VGC wheels with almost no wear on the rims, but the freehub body is grumbling. I know that these hubs (5500, 5501) shared the same freehub body as 4400 and 3300, but I can't find a suitable modern replacement. The part is Shimano y-32x 98040 and looks the same...

Want a good laugh? Read Livestrong's 'History of Dura Ace 600'!

https://www.livestrong.com/article/385645-shimano-600-history/ Almost every single thing stated, is wrong. My favourite part: "As a result, Shimano expanded the Dura-Ace 600 line to include dual shift levers, multi-speed gear sets and bottom bracket hubs." Reminds me - I need to service my...

Pinarello Olé - respray and new parts

Before and after shots of a Pinarello Olé I have. Not so much a classic restoration, more of the Youtube type of restoration, where they respray it, add new decals and then change every component, so almost nothing original is left! But, it used up a 105 groupset I had going spare, and a brand...

Simplex /Mavic downtube shifters - dark grey anodising

I have a couple of pairs of these Simplex shifters, but one pair do not say Simplex on the front, and are anodised a dark grey. I've never seen any more - does anyone know what they are (Mavic, Simplex, model)? Thanks

Shimano 600AX Chainset, pedals and bottom bracket

I've just acquired a 600AX chainset, with the Dynadrive pedals and a BSA bottom bracket. I am missing one of the 'Shimano One Key Release' rings for the BB/crank interface, and the pedals have some play in them. They have the original clips (and some ratty straps). The chainset also comes with...

    Joe Waugh’s tubing choices

Hi, I have seen many Joe Waugh frames in 653 and 531, and a couple of Columbus Max frame sets. But does anyone know if he used any other tubesets (Tange, True Temper, etc)? Thanks

    Joe Waugh with Mudguard eyelets?

I have been offered a frameset, which is claimed to be a Joe Waugh. It is the right weight for a 531c, has nice lugs and dropouts, but it has mudguard eyelets. Now, I have never doubted that any framebuilder would make a frame with them, if asked by a customer, it's just that scouring the...

Hoods for Shimano BL-6208 non-aero brake levers

I have some BL-6208 non-aero brake levers and would like some new hoods for them. Currently, they have some Dia Compe ones that don't fit so well (they aren't cut far enough back underneath, impeding lever movement. Does anyone know where I can get some better fitting hoods (preferable in...

Where can I get Pinarello decals for less than £25-30?

Everywhere I look for Pinarello decals, seems to have a 'Pinarello' price to match! Other brands are priced at £12-18, but Pinarello seems to be at least £25 plus post. I have a tatty Olé that I would like to renovate, but the whole bike was only £45.

    Which Cannondale is this?

This might not qualify for this forum, the limit being 1997 - I think this might be from 1998, but forgive me! I picked this bike up yesterday - it has no model number on it, and very little in the way of any writing. The spec fairly closely matches the 1998 F700 (Mavic 221 rims, Deore LX rear...

    Cloudy chrome forks

I've picked up a nice little mid-90s Jensen, but the chromed forks have 'cloudy' patches on them, that don't polish up. I've searched the internet, but all that comes up are results for using foil to remove rust spots (which these don't have). Does anyone know what to do, to get them all shiny...
