Thought I’d take a quick photo of this banner with a pair of bikes similar to those that competed there and then. Neither bike is completely correct build but I’ll likely redo the shot after making appropriate corrections.
The actual bike that John Tomac raced much of 1992 (although in early ‘92 on a blue re-decal’d Merlin Ti/Eason E9 bike) and all of ‘93.
This might be the first time it’s seen dirt since then.

This was my Grail bike for years - a 1991 Merlin/C9 Raleigh Tomac Signature. You can tell the Merln from Litespeed bikes most easily by the rear dropouts and seattube - monostay connection but the finish on the Ti parts is another, more subtle distinguishing feature.
