Stunning. Love the work and the story. And the understated descriptions of very skilled craftsmanship.

Do we have a shop here? I want to buy a couple of RB t-shirts

I missed this thread the first time round. I'd be in for one (maybe two) T-shirts.

    Claud Butler Electron

I can't find one, but hopefully one exists somewhere. The closest I can find are the 1972 and two 1976 ones. The 1976 catalogue in the Retrobike archive looks like the later 1976 model range with a different set of models no longer including the Electron. On the NKilgariff site page, the early...

Also info about the Electron and other CB models on another page in the same site, with catalogue images etc. Brilliant resource.

Very nice. Some super-useful information here: "Frame Numbers" https://nkilgariff.com/frame-numbers/

    199?'s Stratos Speedster

This is a fantastic build. I love the contrasts throughout - the canti brakes and Alfine hub on the track frame, sealed black primer finish on a bike full of top notch parts... Just all brilliant stuff.

Totally Stoked - Stokes of London

You may have come across this info already; fascinating reading - "Stokes of London Cycles - Three Speed Hub" http://threespeedhub.com/frame-builders/stokes-of-london-cycles/

Totally Stoked - Stokes of London

Love this - a great story and project. H Lloyd's Reynolds decal catalogue suggests that transfer was used between 1937-1948: https://hlloydcycles.com/collections/reynolds?page=3

Late 80s Holdsworth Professional 531 Competition frameset (or not...)

To cut a long story slightly shorter, my summary is that this is probably either a Holdsworth Professional frameset in 531 Competition, or a 653-framed Falcon, from somewhere between 1987 and 1990, with probability pointing towards 531C. Here’s the evidence: The six digit frame number starting...

Late 80s Holdsworth Professional 531 Competition frameset (or not...)

Thanks, I think so too. And there is something to be said for mysteries; plus an already modified frame means originality is Not A Thing. On the other hand, the arcane knowledge of Retrobikers is both deep and wide and I won't be surprised if someone identifies it from some impossibly...

More photos... Those are all the pictures - what do you think?

Late 80s Holdsworth Professional 531 Competition frameset (or not...)

I was recently gifted an intriguing single speed road bike. The frame has been powder coated white. There are no stickers, previous colours or other clues to its identity, other than a 6-digit frame number under the BB: 906401. Barely perceptible marks under the coating seems evidence of...

    T = Toyo, I think.

How does one choose a new steed in these modern times?

Reading through the first couple of pages of the thread, thinking Spa Cycles would be well worth a look. Steel frames, short and long top tube lengths available, good range of options for tyre widths and brakes, bike and frame only possibilities. Then saw @Takingabreak had the very same thought.

    Spa Cycles Audax

Yes, pretty much the ultimate for compatibility. As long as the tyres aren't too wide, so many components fit and look right.

    Spa Cycles Audax

Nice! Is that the one that was on for £75 with carbon forks? An absolute bargain if so. I've swapped the bars on mine to butterfly bars. Not everyone's cup of tea, visually, but I've found I prefer them for most types of riding. Look forward to seeing pictures of yours as it comes together.

    Claude Butler Vantage Resto Mod

Specialized is a great choice. That one looks in good condition. I've got a Hardrock and a Rockhopper and like them both a lot Some of the catalogues are here: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/archive/categories/specialized-catalogues.6/ The U brake points towards it being from 1988, I think.
