    Dealing with reluctant measurers..

You could argue an older bike doesn't need support. Parts are fairly generic. Any basic shop or DIY enthusiast can repair it. What extra support is necessary? Joe Public isn't as special as us and doesn't need to know that the head angle on a 54 is 72° but on a 56 is 73°

    When life gives you lemons...

The catalogue shot says 531 butted frame tubes, so I would say 27.2mm. 531 plain gauge would be different (26.4??). What makes you doubt 27.2?

Wanted 90s quill stem, 26mm clamp, 100-120 long VGC

Happy to meet up in say Endcliffe park at some point if it suits. I'm in-between having sold my car and not yet having replaced it and don't fancy riding up to yours. We can work out the detail by PM, as you say

Wanted 90s quill stem, 26mm clamp, 100-120 long VGC

Yes, it doesn't specify. I've no bars to test it and don't own any delicate measuring equipment

Wanted 90s quill stem, 26mm clamp, 100-120 long VGC

I've got a Cinelli XA in 120 in nice condition. But I can't tell if it's a 26.0 or 26.4 clamp. Online information suggests they were made in both.

RX100 shifters woes - any advice?

Ok, it seems I wasn't clear. Advance apologies if I now sound patronising (i'm trying not to be, but want to be clear). Let's assume you currently have a 13-28 7 speed cassette and want to replicate this. Buy a 8 speed 12-28. Then discard the 12 sprocket and you now have 7 cogs 13-28 but...

RX100 shifters woes - any advice?

Yes, you might have to pack it out with a washer. But the spline arrangement will fit. Spacers are minimal cost. I was trying to suggest a quick n easy fix

RX100 shifters woes - any advice?

    1. you can still fit a '8 speed' cassette on your wheels - but only use 7 of them. So, 7 cogs with 8 speed spacing. 2. shimano rear derailleurs were interchangeable. So, in theory you could use anything from the 5 - 10 speed eras and the indexing will work. As you work up to 9 and 10 speeds...

    Dealing with reluctant measurers..

To a non cyclist they might find questions we feel important as being over-fussy and then see us as pedantic, awkward buyers. After all, to them, there are only 3 types of bike - child's bike, penny farthing and adult bike. Their view is - it's an adults bike, if the price/condition tradeoff is...
