Agree, they make no sense upon initial fiddling, but once setup they feel & work nicely. And if anything is not correct with the setup/cable routing you will have no joy (I would imagine). Plenty of YouTube vids for help (I watched a few)

I actually share the sentiments of the OP. Powder can be awful & it is well suited for park gates benches. I would never PC a valuable frame I don't think, but I do have a fantastic powder coating business nearby. I used them a fair few times now & the finish is always fantastic.

Where are you based, Originsoundd? People can maybe help recommend prospective bikes/frames that are for sale. There is a nice Dawes on ebay in Leeds, 16" steel frame. Too far?

If you haven't built this yet I'll just chip in with some wisdom of my own. Old MTB's can be perfect for what you wish to use it for, where they can fall down is with rear heel clearance to panniers. Racier bikes from the 90's will typically have a shorter wheelbase & rear end than an 80's...

I despise those Altus chainsets. Surprised it's not got a 1piece BMX crank being a Raleigh, maybe it is high-end after all.

Raleigh is merely a marketing company & warehouse these days isn't it? The Nottingham factory shut years back. No doubt the share holders had a good year despite the news which the figures are a reflection of 2023 apparently, so 24 probably a bigger loss.

The Brahma was the first thing to get ditched from my 92 Apex. Too narrow between the controls. Good work, the frame/paint look flawless.
