This made me realise I didn’t post my other, other MB on this thread. It’s the least good-looking of my MBs, but it is actually my size for a change. 1990 MB Dronfield, 531 Competition. 10 speed restomod build.

No, that was a Condor frame that should be with me next week. I picked this MB up locally as a full bike recently, despite of course really having no real room for it. The usual story! 🫣

Nearly a year on, I've made a few small changes which are not that visible but were necessary for the bike to actually ride properly. Unfortunately I was wrong about the Campagnolo BB working okay with the Stronglight 99 chainset. I may have just had one that wasn't long enough, but it also...

Many thanks for taking the time to take those excellent photos. I think it's just a bit too marked for this build seeing as it'll be going on a newly painted frame, so I will have to pass this time around. A shame, as I do like the Evol stems. Thanks again.

Actually thinking about it, I think that style of stem is not quite right for this bike, but thanks anyway.

I'll send you a PM @pigman – I do have some 26.4 bars to test your stem with, and seeing as we're both in Sheffield I might as well find out if it's the right size for me. If nothing else, at least then you'll know what size it is for future reference... Thanks.

Yes, they did make them in both sizes, just to confuse things. I think at first they were just 26.4 and then they made the 26.0 versions as well. The 26.0 versions I’ve seen had a sticker on the box saying so, so I suspect yours is 26.4 if it doesn’t specify one way or the other.

I’ve found putting the stem in the vice and twisting/pulling the fork upwards off the stem is a lot easier than trying to pull the stem itself upwards. Might be worth a go before resorting to cutting anything.

I’m after a 90s era quill stem, 26mm clamp, 100-120 long. It can potentially be black or silver, condition is the main thing as it needs to be free of any marks, or minimal marks at best. Thanks

eBay’s suggested prices are about 99% of the time absolutely useless. I’m sure they must be responsible for some of the crazy prices out there (never underestimate the laziness of many sellers).

Knowing a bit about Orbit, it certainly doesn’t surprise me that they would have put old 531 decals on a frame. Their quality control was not exactly the most scrupulous from some examples I’ve seen, though that’s not to say they didn’t make nice bikes, of course.

Good point. Just goes to show that way of dating a bike doesn’t always work.
