Just picked up this Univega Alpine 5.7 (bike packing base)

Here you go, sir It gets screwed to the saddle rails called Topeak Backloader Wishbone The new Backloader has it already built in it's harness if I understand correctly 😜

I fitted a wishbone to prevent that, an anti sway bar so to speak... It also comes with mounts for two bottle cages wich is also nice for my next small trip where water is not as easy to get I think. I like those bike packing gear for two reasons: 1: the bike remains relatively narrow which...

Wow you found the original grips! I could use a pair of them too.

Wow thanks a lot!! It is still on my workbench and in pretty good shape...(because I'm a lazy fella when it comes to cleaning up the shed)

Congratulations! Really nice catch in an awesome condition. I use my Alpina for bike packing too because the frame is really comfortable as @joglo just said. I simply but on a riser bar (and a brooks) and it feels just right for me, even on longer trips.

Awesome bike and build! Very nice work! I agree with you 100% in regards to clear coat. I messed up all my frames at the first try so far.

It's always the small bits that are hard to come by. I also could use a cable holder and chainstay protector. I guess I'll use a shark fin remake instead.

Yesterday I just used WD40 and a pair of tweezers with a cloth. Most of it was already gone. However, I read somewhere that vinegar is also supposed to help. I will probably give that a try later. I also never succeeded 100%.

Yesterday I took care of the brakes. That means just one because I didn't have that much time. What a difference a little cleaning can make. Also the brake pads are still nice and soft and not even half worn. So they can stay. I guess there is simply nothing more efficient for preserving...
