Hi When I was upgrading the brakes on my Dawes Lightning, I measured the brake drop at 65mm as well - tried out the Miches and sure enough they were too small, at the back IIRC. So long as you dont get them marked when trying for size, you can send them back ! Went for the tektro long drops...

I'd say probably bigger, the main thing to look for I've found is the top tube length. Old bikes can be 65cm seat tube with a 58 top tube, a newer frame would have a 60cm or less seat tube for the same top tube. They all vary though. I found the van nicholas size calculator useful to find out...
