Finished the build off yesterday. New bb Refurbished LX cranks painted matte black Wellgo V8 style pedals. Kmc x9 chain. On one N/W chainring. Cheers Kyle

Clarks clout hydraulic disc brake set was good value and good reviews. 180mm front 160mm rear so I’m sure will be good enough for him. Waiting on the bb so as far as I can get today.

The build has started. Wheels cleaned up and new schwalbe tyres fitted. Shimano hubs and Mavic x139 rims.

Thanks. It’s actually a fade rather than a flip paint so it’s always along the bottoms of the tubes and the back of the seat tube that are Pearl red but it does look like it’s a flip colour in some ways. Cheers Kyle

Yeah fair shout although I had already ordered the black a while ago. I think it’s quite a modern look with the subtle graphics though. Kyle

2 more coats of clear coat before leaving work. I’m really happy with it but hard to capture in photos in the booth. Kyle

I wouldn’t worry about that to be honest. As long as you feather the paint edges so there is no step it shouldn’t be a problem. I just used a ‘wet on wet’ primer that doesn’t need sanding and didn’t have any visible edges where there was old paint still on the frame. Cheers Kyle

I just sanded the main parts back and feathered the paint out around the cable guides and hard to reach areas so that there wasn’t a noticeable edge. Then used red scotch on the parts with paint left on. Hope this helps Kyle

The frame has been scotched down again and new down tube decals put on ready for another 2 coats of clear coat tomorrow. Kyle

Firstly I would say bike frames are hard to paint as they have so many angles you need to paint the tubes from. So if you can get some practice on other simpler items that would be better. The better your preparation is the better your results will be. You can’t cover bad prep with a good paint...
