If you have a Toolstation near you they sell a box of eclips for less than £3. It is a mixed box. I could do with some myself so will buy some and let you know if any fit.

Hi, yes you can buy them. They are not expensive.

Is it the circlip that had snapped?

Of all the jobs you can do on one of these old Marin's I would say that it is one of the easiest. I use a small flat head screwdriver to get the circlip out then use the flat part to push the pin part way out, then just pull/prise the rest of the way. The wheel will just drop out. Clean and...

They should rotate. They pin can get a bit bunged up. Pop the circlip off - careful not to lose it. Push the pin out clean, regrease and reassemble. It should turn easily. I really rate these Zolatone paint finishes.

Next 3 projects after I finish the 93 IFT. The 99ish Hawk hill has had its laquer removed, there is also a 93 Nail Trail and a 97 Mount Vision in there as well. The Nail Trail will have a Manitou Mach 5 SX fork fitted, Deore LX gears and Tektro CR720 breaks. The Mount Vision will have it's...

I was thinking something similar. I recently stripped and started polishing a 93 IFT. I also got a 97 Mount Vision for Xmas, it will also need stripping and polishing. They say practice makes perfect.

Just got this for Xmas! I am pretty certain it is a Hawk Hill from 99ish. It doesn't have the original RST forks as they were absolutely shot so I fitted these SR Suntour that I had laying around. I am not sure what to do with it, I am thinking about having some fun with colours and possibly...

How many times do you have to do the spray to get a good result? Do you key it with wire wool first?

A mixture, I went down to P3000 then used 2 different grades of polishing compound with a buffing wheel on a drill. Then the elbow grease with the White Diamond polish. The plan is to do another couple of round of polishing to get it finished. Hope that helps. Once this is finished I will be...

I saw a thread on here where white diamond polish was recommended over autosol and I can say that I would agree with them. Not used poor boys so I could not compare them. I reckon you will be pleasently surprised with how well the frame polishes up. I really like the look of the 92 IFT, I hope...

That is the next month or so of your spare time sorted then. If you don't mind me asking, what polish are you planning to use?

I feel your pain. Are you planning to polish?

That did make me chuckle, the big question would be do the decals match the lights though? It is not all bad, I am quite pleased with how this bike has polished up so I am going to strip and polish a 93 nail trail that I have. I was planning on upgrading it with LX and a Manitou Mach 5 sx fork...

I am having to put this project on hold. I can no longer use the conservatory to work on it as it is not christmasy enough! I tried to argue that the polished frame would reflect the Xmas lights but no joy.

Might be old but definitely not crusty. Some serious upgrades there. How is the ride?

This is my 93 Indian Fire Trail. I am currently at the "why did this seem like such a good idea" point. Stripping and polishing this frame has been much more difficult than I initially thought it would be. At one point, when all was going smoothly, the plan was to do the same with a 94 Nail...

Marin East Peak, help with year please

Probably not too muddy, much more of an old railway track/towpath rider nowadays. Injuries take too long to heal! The forks are the original white Manitou FS bulge that seem to be in pretty good condition. I have a Ritchey wcs white saddle that I think will work and will look at matching it...

Marin East Peak, help with year please

Hi, It has the original Manitou forks which seem ok, they are elastomer style with oil damping. I will replace the elastomers and see how it goes. It came with a White Industries crank so probably keep that and go with M739 gears and breaks, what do you think?
