    Help Raleigh Team Panasonic

According to (1984 Raleigh brochure): http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/bu ... lders5.jpg the Raleigh-Weinmann team frames had Simplex dropouts. I suspect there was a deal with Chicken and Son to supply the parts; they imported Simplex, Weinmann, Maillard, Sedis components.

    Help Raleigh Team Panasonic

I think this has more to do with the UK based Raleigh-Weinmann team. http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/bu ... lders.html My guess is it's a training version of the team frame, with mudguard eyes and bigger clearances.

    Paganini frame Columbus tubing INFORMATION??

I would check the weight and the seatpin size. Heavier tubing usually had thicker walled tubing so used 27mm seatpins or smaller.

    Help Raleigh Team Panasonic

Nutted brakes, Simplex dropouts, mudguard eyes, French style front mech braze on....then the 753 sticker comes as a bit of a shock. I agree, probably a custom built frame for someone.

CIOCC San Cristobal - Tom Crowther

It's not clear from the photo, but I think that looks like a Cinelli bottom bracket shell, which is a standard part that any frame builder could have used. If the BB is Italian threaded, then the frame was probably not built in the UK. Did the original buyer order it as a custom built frame...

    Holdsworth 1981 cycle parts catalogue

Yep, those are the "full" retail prices, discount sellers had lower prices. And Campagnolo prices were significantly higher than the rest.

    753 Weight?

2550gm for frame and forks and headset, for a 60cm frame is light! A 52cm 753 frame would be about 1700g, 753 forks about 700g.

My parts at NAHBS custom bike show

God, what an awful looking bike. Brown leather saddles and brown bar tape = "retro" fakery. I'd prefer a modern looking bike than this mess, at least it wouldn't be trying be something it is not. Sorry but putting an old logo on current and new parts is also fakery. And wood (along...

Argument over a saddle and a spare tub' :D

It's an "aero" thing isn't it?

    Reynolds tubing weight comparisons

I gather 531 itself is the steel and C, ST etc were just pre-packaged sets of tubes with different wall thicknesses. By the time Reynolds introduced the various sets, AFAIK there wasn't a "standard" 531. Before that there was 531 double butted and 531 plain gauge, both which I guess came in...

Trails and Tribulations of a team Mechanic.

I'm not a fan of modern bikes but it's interesting that the bikes have what look like traditional amberwall tubulars that would look at home on bikes from 30, 40 years.

    Reynolds tubing weight comparisons

I was just looking at these the other day: http://equusbicycle.com/bike/reynolds/i ... ochure.jpg http://equusbicycle.com/bike/reynolds/i ... ochure.jpg It seems the weights are for a complete set of uncut tubes, not for a built frame.

    Anyone recognise this Halfords Sport?

Maybe there's or there was another Halfords bike shop who sold their own branded bikes.

    Master frame builders

I think the very idea of a "master" framebuilder is a bit silly. Sure there are certain skills involved in building a frame, but as someone said it's no more and no less than accurate joining of metal tube together. Anyone could, with tuition, build a frame without any previous experience...

    70's Halfords Olympic scored!

There's no way anyone can put out a bike called "Olympic" or with the rings now, haha.

    I've been polishing!

I'm so used to seeing parts in their original anodising or bare polished alu finish that parts with anodising removed look weird. Eg, non-anodised N/S Rec seatpins look right whilst de-anodised N/S/C Rec cranks look odd, especially Campagnolo non-anodised cranks with anodised rings. But at...

late 80s/early 90s time trial bikes

This frame (Roy Cottingham lo pro track) has a weird head tube arrangement. It looks like the top tube and head tube is only connected by a thin bit of metal. https://secure.flickr.com/photos/552834 ... 182808880/ https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1300/5182810728_eb63d89093_b.jpg

    Olympic tourch cost ?!

The Olympics is a massive gravy train. It's costing us , the UK public, more than £8,000,000,000 ( some estimates put it at more than 11 billion) to host it. Security alone is going to cost more than half a billion (not sure if that's only the cost paid to private companies and doens't...

Are these Ken Bird frames the same?

If you go after the open for public starting time, nearly all the "good" stuff will have been bought up by the dealers (posing as sellers to get in early) to sell for profit, a huge profit in some cases. Of course anyone is free to book a stall at a jumble, put unsellable junk on it, and leave...
