    Two pieces of metal

I do up that seatpin quite tight and I haven't had any breakages so far and it's rock solid. Perhaps it wasn't tight enough and cracked from fatigue, like spokes that are not tight. The only part I've broken and it's my fault is the Campagnolo qr "housing" where the lever fits into. I had the...

    Nuovo Record Vs. Super Record

Re: sfsfasf The only "hidden" difference is the ti bb and pedal axles. Everything else is quite obvious; drilled brake levers, cutaway rings etc. But the parts did change through the years, eg early SR seatpin was the 2 bolt design with flutes, the one bolt type was later and there were...

Oh, I misread your message a bit, I think we're saying the same thing.

    Damaged rear hanger. Help.

I suppose brazing the broken bit back on or replacing the dropout would be a simple and quick job, and shouldn't cost too much. But there is the cost of new paint for any frame repairs. The £400 quoted must include both new chrome and new paint.

Les Ephgrave Have I described this bike correctly?

I'm a bit dubious why his frames go for such a high price, for an old secondhand frame that is, it's still no more than an equivalent new frame. Maybe it's a combination of being easily identifiable and the usual thing of once something gets known as "collectible" the price gets inflated by...

    Mavic, Modolo brakes

I was looking for some stuff the other day and came across one of my Speedy calipers, and yep the sintered blocks are really hard, and I think they were that hard when new. I also remember they're quite abrasive.

    Concorde Squadra

It looks like the PDM team paint scheme changed a bit. The earlier one had a white head tube: https://secure.flickr.com/photos/chrisw ... 212646073/ https://secure.flickr.com/photos/chrisw ... 212644991/ (Looks like a TVT in the team colours) Later had a black head with "Concorde" on a...

    What a find?

The asking price of £700 is completely bonkers, I predict 100% no takers at that price. It looks like there aren't enough sprockets for ten freewheels, perhaps a lot fewer, maybe seven. Eg, of the 18 to 24 teeth sprockets, there are only 5 of each size. And there's only 3 bodies. So from a...

    Tubs - What size?

Sprint rims are the same diameter as 700c rims, but tubs are labelled as 28 inch, don't ask me why!

    Clive Stuart Restoration

https://secure.flickr.com/photos/kevin_ ... 889645728/ They had a shop in Stoke-on-Trent, which is where Brian Rourke is based. I suspect Clive Stuart was a bike shop who sold their own branded frames which were built by various local framebuilders. A quick web search on "Clive Stuart...

    Tubs - What size?

Yes the standard tubular sprint rim diameter is the same as 700c HPs. I suspect the 633mm is from the tape measure being not held straight when trying to measure a rim when it's been built into a wheel.

    Mavic, Modolo brakes

I think they're quite hard when new anyway, I mean the " sintered" type. If you want to replace the brakes blocks, find some generic blocks, cut to shape if needed, push out the old blocks and put in the new ones. Or you can get some after market shoes and blocks.

Know of any raw-rubber/amber/butterscotch coloured 700c tire

£40 for one made in Thailand tyre??!! The price should be more like the Challenge Forte Open Tubular. The £30 Italian made Veloflex Master seems like a bargain in comparison. EDIT it seems the 'normal' Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX, ie blackwall with coloured tread, is £29, but the amberwall...

Know of any raw-rubber/amber/butterscotch coloured 700c tire

My old Vittoria Open Corsa amberwalls are really easy to get on and off, on MA2s. Veloflex are really ruining the look of their tyres with that huge and ugly logo.

    Mavic rear mech help

Without the tabs, the washer need to be slightly too thick to work, I think. And then you'd need to loosen the gear hanger bolt every time you take the wheel out. The correct thickness puts the mech at the right distance from the hanger, so that it touches the hanger but still spin freely...
