    Saddle/bar tape/lever hood quandary ??

And completely wrong  1970s to 1985: black saddle, white tape, and brown rubber hoods which matches the amberwall black tread tyres. What's "gum", I though it's a sort of glue?

    Lubricants

First; don't bother with any "cycle" grease, cleaners or lubes. I use the cheapest car engine oil, 1 litre for a few £. For grease, marine waterproof grease, £5-10 for 500g. Ordinary car grease will be OK too. The only bad experience with grease is I once greased my headset with a light...

    Frame Saver

This is just repackaged stuff with "professional, cycle ..." on it and sold at an inflated price in bike shops, just like "cycle" lubes and grease. There are plenty of non-cycle rust proofing products that does the same thing if you want to use a specialised product rather than machine/engine...

    Bikes seen out and about

No name yellow frame with track ends. It has quite a distinctive seat cluster. Also the frame number is on the top of the seat tube.

    Colnago Mexico

This is not the thread to discuss it but it's just personal taste, the short answer is yes, IMO, especially with off the peg production frames. A respray is not original, nor are reproduction transfers and tubing stickers. Colnago didn't just build a bare frame without paint.

    Classic Cyclo Cross from 1962

Coz it was virtually a one woman race, she could have ridden it in her sleep and won. It's supposed to be national championship race but it's so amateurish it's a joke. Women's racing was so uncompetitive, and even now, that all it takes is one talented rider to completely dominate the sport.

    Colnago Mexico

There's no tubing sticker as well, and the head tube transfer looks a bit low.

    Crank Removal - help meeeeeeee

Unless you're going to scrap the cranks, don't use hammers or ride them with the bolts undone. Use the correct tool, and don't forget to remove the washer if there is one.

    Bikes seen out and about

It looks like the qr is open, both front and back. Even with it closed the blocks are probably quite far from the rim, so with it open the cable actually goes slack. I think it's a Modolo Flash although the levers are marked Gipiemme, and the cranks are Gipiemme as well. Also the stem...

Pinarello, or at least a frame with that name on, it has long Campagnolo ends so it's not junk.

    Bikes seen out and about

I didn't notice that! You do wonder how these bikes end up as hack bikes used purely for transport by people with no interest in cycling. A common gear I've seen people use is with both gear levers pushed forward all the way, ie small ring and smallest sprocket. This is the sort of bike I...

    tubular tyres question

The usual method is carry a spare tub which has been pre-stretched and glue already applied. If you use tape, carry a spare roll of tape with your spare tub.

C-Record crankset - variables in anodisation.

I think they just have a more satin finish. I have a pair like that. Some anodised parts can have a more mirror-like finish.

    Ron cooper .. More pics/info..

It looks like an 80s frame but I'm sure that Columbus tubing sticker is much older.

Cleats (old type) / Shoe Plates and shoes

They're shoe plates! The nail on type were for all-leather shoes, but by the 80s plastic soles were common and they usually came with screw on adjustable shoe plates. "Cleats" are what fits into clipless pedals. Track riders are no different from road riders, they use modern clipless...
