Perhaps you mean Simplex dropouts, I'm not sure Stronglight ever made dropouts.

ITM Pave bars wanted or swap

I'm looking for ITM handlebars with the "Pave" bend in 44cm outside to outside. The shape is "squarish" rounded deep drop. Preferably not with double grooves, either to buy or to swap for my bars in 41cm: ITM Italia Pro, black anodised, single grooves, marked as "41" but actual width at the bar...

Which 80's Raleigh is this on e-bay ?

My guess if it's not 27.2 then it's not 531. The other thing is to look at the weight.

Loads of NOS steel frames on offer!

Most of them are too new for my taste; unicrown forks just look awful, I don't like oversize tubing either, nor tig welding. That supposed Cinelli's got a tiny "C" logo on the head lug, is that a Concorde or Ciocc logo? Where's the Cinelli seat cluster?

Which 80's Raleigh is this on e-bay ?

If you look at the "501 Race" (actually only 501 main tubes) frame in the brochure, you can just about see the glint of the dropout adjusters (it helps to save the pic and enlarge it haha). It also says it has the full range of braze-ons and variable geometry.

    Rim options please

I'd suggest do a web search, or search various UK based cycling forums, or start a new thread, for the above otherwise this thread is going to go off topic. As far as I'm concerned the Open pro and similar are current modern rims. They have a different shape compared with the older shallow box...

What is this? Vintage Track Frame identification help please

Re: What is this? Vintage Track Frame identification help pl Unless I know definitely a frame is a certain brand, eg engravings on the frame, the frame's got its original finish, I have the receipt or the frame number matches a framebuilder's record book, then I wouldn't just put some random...

    Ron cooper

Re: Right hand crank is 1980, which looks in amazing condition. Left is 1973. I'd think you would have no choice but to use a modern one, or maybe an old MTB seatpin. Your frame is actually too small. The amount of exposed seatpost as it is now is probably longer than the whole length of an...

Which 80's Raleigh is this on e-bay ?

If it's one of the frames in that brochure, then it does look like the 501 model (501 main tubes only!) because of the semi-sloping fork crown. IMO the starting price is too high for a low end frame.

    Tubs or clinchers?

You carry a spare tub, as it's not convenient to repair a tub at the roadside. I've never used any tyre sealant, but I've read that the stuff can cause problems long term, especially with latex inner tubes.

    Tubs or clinchers?

Re tubular/clincher, bad points of both types rolled into one! Heaver rim and difficult to repair, or in the case of Tufo, impossible to repair. By repair I mean opening up and patching the inner tube, not squirting some horrible gunk inside.

And yes, it's very "ordinary". Just about the only unusual thing about it is it doesn't have tubs.

    Handlebar & Stem Fitting Advice

The Podium stem is apparently 25.4mm, see: http://www.velociao.com/wp-content/gallery/3ttt-1980-catalog/3ttt-80s-03.jpg There was a 25.4 Podium bars to go with the stem. http://www.velociao.com/2011/3ttt-1990s-catalogue-broschure/ With the correct stem size, if it doesn't fit straight onto the...

    .

Re: Campagnolo 50th credit card IMO reproduction transfers and tubing stickers made by a random person are "fake", in the sense they are not original. Restorations (ie new paint and graphics) are "fake" as well, except when done by the original company and even then it's still reproduction...

    Steel in the peleton shocker

But it stills looks crap, like any other modern sloping top tube frame with oversize tubing, underneath the paint it might as well be carbon etc. And it's got carbon forks, so only half the "frame" (frame and forks) is steel. Yeah, by modern standards 1.6-1.7kg for a 54cm is just feeble, it's...

Worst component you've ever unfortunately dealt with

Downtube indexed gear levers. They made such a loud horrible click with every change change that I gave up after one ride and have stayed with friction gears ever since. I'm sure they worked perfectly well, so it's just a matter of taste. Carradice saddle bag support, the one that clamps to the...

    Wheels and Hubs

I wasn't thinking of the colour re Open Pro vs MA40 but rather their shape. The Open Pro has the modern semi deep profile with 2 extra angled surfaces, where as the MA40 has the classic shallow box section. The difference is easy to see and it's very noticeable, at least to me.

    Wheels and Hubs

I disagree on the Open Pro, they look nothing like the old style rims like the MA40 etc.

    Does this look right?

Back then it wouldn't have thought as lower than normal. If old style brake levers are mounted in the current fashion, ie higher up the bars with the part you hold when "on the hoods" pointing upwards, then you can't reach the levers when holding the drops.
