late 80s/early 90s time trial bikes

But that is a lo-pro bike (in the photo), it's just that taller riders don't need a smaller front wheel to correctly position their upturned bars.

Are these Ken Bird frames the same?

Well I'd rather buy from the original (or last) owner and not from a dealer who sticks their nose in the middle and who'll inflate the price. What's the big deal with "restoration", which usually just means getting a respray and cleaning up. IMO it's not "returning them to their former glory".

    Tubular repair

8-9 bars is quite high though, I usually use 7-7.5 bars although I'm not hugely heavy. If the casing itself is not cut, you can still use the tyre, maybe on the rear for safety. But the tread around the cut might start pulling off the casing, eventually.

    MKM Ultimate

Some bike have toe clip overlap, it looks like this one has crank overlap lol.

Just wondering when centrepulls were last used on new bikes?

I think it's more likely non recessed brakes were used so it'll be easier to mount the mudguards.

    Re-tubing a tubular tyre.

Is there a puncture or is it just that it won't hold air? It might be the valve is leaking, some have a replacement core. I agree it'll be very difficult if not practically impossible to stitch up a whole tub by hand so it's like new. Even when you do a puncture repair, stitching up a...

    Tv Licensing ?

If you don't have a TV, or don't watch live TV as it is broadcast, just ignore TVL! Remember TVL have no powers at all (absolutely zero powers), they cannot actually do anything. All they can do is send you letters, which can go straight into the recycle bin, or knock on your door, in which...

    Dawes 1980 catalogue

They've got a cheek, they say: and yet they're selling digital copies of content they do not own.

    How A Bicycle Is Made.

The web page says 1946. The most alarming thing in the film was that bloke doing the frame "painting" by dipping, and he puts his whole hand into the paint!

A Quick 1960's 5 speed Chain Size Question?

AFAIK derailleur always uses 3/32 not 1/8th.

    The Weather

I actually like the current temp, about 10-15 degrees, I don't like hot weather. The day time rain I can do without though!

The 1st record you genuinely bought?

7in singles: First was C'mon Everybody, no not the original Eddie Cochrane version but by The Sex Pistols. But... the second was Gertcha by Chas and Dave! Also still got them.

    freewheel removal problem

Campagnolo version: That's a good copy of the tool. Back in the day, I didn't get any C-Record hubs because of the dustcaps and another tool needed, so I stuck to the N Records which I still use now.

Thinking of changing my rims ?

    Let's say I wouldn't pay that price!

    Assessing tyre wear

No! If it's a lightweight tyre like a tub or "open tubular", peel off the tread and cut off the beads and you'd have the perfect material for patching the inside of a tyre.

Thinking of changing my rims ?

Unless it's going to be a display bike, I would say don't bother to change the rims. As soon as you start using brakes on new dark anodised rims, the sidewalls are going to show wear marks. I'd say save the MA40s as replacement for when the currents rims are actually worn out, ie the...

    Harry Hall

I've got a frame with the same amount of brazons; cable guides on top of top tube, over bb cable routing, but no gear lever or front mech braze ons. Also has nutted brakes, rear end is 120mm (Campagnolo short dropouts). Is that the original paint? It looks like a respray given how shiny and...

    Earliest aero levers?

Pics of Hinault, in the 1981 Tour with modified levers: http://www.gitaneusa.com/images/models/timetrial/Hinault.jpg http://www.gitaneusa.com/images/models/timetrial/Hinault01.jpg Note he had the undrilled Nuovo levers with what appears to be black hoods. Edit; I think 1 pic is...

Want to weigh your bike/parts/cat cheaply and accurately?!

That particular one, where you can hang what you are weighing from it, is handy for weighing a complete bike, but it's not ideal for bike parts though as it only reads to every 10g! For parts, what you really need is a kitchen/postal type scales that reads up to say 2kg in 1g.
