    MERTENS Track bike

I have again see a couple examples of your chainwheel that match the design, but are not skip tooth. Nervar and A. Duprat; both French companies.

    MERTENS Track bike

Velo retro course member has indicated that this is a Belgian marque, possibly pre-WW2.

    MERTENS Track bike

Thank you @Tommy27 I have corrsponded with an administrator on velo retro course ("VRC"), and have been informed that it is a Belgian marque with the frame most likely dating pre-WW2. I was not under the impression that the parts were necessarily original to the bike, but I was curious if they...

    1930ish Automoto

@Woz , just got through reading your wonderful thread. Guess I'll need to round up a bevy of 'Gallic Girls' to pose with the bike during phases of rebuild.

    1930ish Automoto

I obtained it from the guy who posted on Tonton velo. He is not that familiar with older bikes (nor am I really, but getting there), but he did not really like its ride thus his parting ways with it. No wonder since the saddle is not fit for any type of long rides due to being over broken-in and...

    1930ish Automoto

Automoto built frame bike from around 1930. I believe this was a contract build by Automoto for another company. I know they did that, but how many different brands used their frames is a mystery to me. It should have rivet holes for an Automoto head badge if originally badged as such since all...

    Guerciotti Sprint

Follow-up; I have the Tommaso version of your bike (black anodized tubing). I had to check it since I had not ridden it in about 3 years, and I couldn't remember the frame configuration. My bike is supposedly a 1986 model. I've had it for about 6 years; very nice handling and no comfort issue...

    Guerciotti Sprint

I believe you are 100% correct. I found catalog examples in the Bulgier website from 1985 (called the GA 6100-Sprint), and 1988 (called GA Aluminum Sprint); also identical frames (and essentially components) in the Tommaso catalogs from 1985 (called the TA 5000 Record Aluminum), and 1988 (called...

    Unknown frame ID

I would think the front reinforcing gusset and/or stays' wishbone plates might be unique enough to give a clue.

Hi all i have a Francesco Moser Super Prestige frame but the Columbus tube decal is missing, can anyone help id it i think ive possibly found a match

I think if your frame is "Aelle" tubing it would also be no earlier than '78. 1977 is when Columbus changed/split up and I believe "Aelle" was introduced just after that period ('78-'80). I think your frame should at least have the world championship decals for 1976 (track pursuit) and 1977...

    Expanding seat post!!!!!

If I recall correctly when I dismantled it, the adjustment bolt had an offset cam which engaged the wedge bolt whose head had a round orifice to receive the cam. You can only tighten it so much until it will start to loosen again; I have not experienced that situation when installing.

    Expanding seat post!!!!!

Hi Pete, I checked out my Moser, and it has a Sun Tour 27.2mm quill post . As I said it has the tightening bolt accessible on the side of the post so no special tool required to reach it; no removal of saddle required either. I do not know it you can find one or what the price would be. It has...

Help needed...my Italian is not good.

I have done the same in Italian and French; but beware the translation is not always what you think with Google translate. Take what you want to convert and type it into the site then "reverse" translate it back from Italian to English and verify that it is essentially what you originally input...

    RIP Captaincowelly

Sorry to hear of the passing of your friend and fellow cyclist. I suffer from same. Solo cycling is my Zen medication; it just keeps me focused away from the depressing thoughts and towards the joy and freedom of an open road and horizon.

    Identify earlyish lugs

A quick glance and I thought they were Haden "bird's mouth" lugs; but no. At least not the same as on my '72 Raleigh Pro. Possibly a lower grade copy of them. Definitely a little rough in the quality of the workmanship.

    Expanding seat post!!!!!

I know I got it used at my local shop; a good place to look since not many folks are using that type of post. I got lucky with the size being correct though. I keep thinking it was an Avocet branded post; that bike is in my storage unit so I'll verify this weekend. I know a lot of Moser owners...

    Expanding seat post!!!!!

I have a "quill" post for my late 80s Moser Leader "SC". It's not the OE Moser post and only cost me about 10 quid at the time (about 3 years ago. you do not need a special wrench; it has an allen head bolt exposed on the side. I cannot remember the name, but I will check it and post it here. It...

Downtube Friction shifters with ratchet mechanism for the drive side.

Technically the Campy Syncros, even though designed for indexing, were "retrofriction" if you used them in that manner.

Hi all i have a Francesco Moser Super Prestige frame but the Columbus tube decal is missing, can anyone help id it i think ive possibly found a match

Only for "SLX"/"SPX" tubing not "SL"/"SP". You can check the steerer tube for the 5 helical ridges to verify a Columbus steerer, but I don't know if that necessarily identifies the frame tubing type.
