I have a couple of Merlin mountain bikes, but they are more of a brushed finish, this is lovely and shiny!

The result of a few hours in the stand with a heat gun (to remove the incorrect decals) and some autosol. There are no cracks, dents or even scrapes that I can find. What a beauty.

Finally, some progress this evening. I was a bit disheartened when the stem turned up as it was not as described, however, it’s the correct one for the bike and I can source a better one without the rush now.

Thanks very much. I’ve found the right T Bone now, I’m just waiting for it to arrive. Looks like it will need refurbishing, but hopefully it will do the job.

Revised, it’s actually a 1 1/8” I need rather than a 1”! Preferably with an under sling cable hanger and silver top cap. Many thanks.

For some reason I had convinced myself it was a 1” quill I needed, thanks for making me realise it’s actually 1 1/8”! That would probably be fine, I’ll see if I can find the one with the hanger, but I’ll probably buy that one on eBay in the meantime!

Looks like the Axis/Axis Pro and Apex came with Smokes and the lower models with Tioga tyres in ‘91. Glad I’m not not the only one who’s bought a bike just for the tyres! I’ve done that a few times 😂
