    Holdsworth Frame Numbers

Ahaha :D I just completed mounting the Cyclo Ace derailleur on the younger sister (La Variable from 1939). Looking smart!

First thing I'll do is to turn the head clip indeed :) I will report on the seat stays too. Frame has been delivered at the office today, but I wasn't there. Will pick it up tomorrow.

I also found mention of that BB shell number here: http://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vinta ... ?styleid=6 Where they mention this Adelaide frameset from the 50s. And indeed, in what seems to be claimed as a 1952 catalogue, sure enough, BB shell No. 1563 was still available...

    Holdsworth Frame Numbers

Nice find! It's worth nothing that the number was also very well centered and in line with the CHATER LEA text, which hinted at it being a Chater Lea numbering system. Any idea of the year of that second frameset ? Link to where you've found that image ? Also found this Chater Lea catalogue...

I guess it has to be done throughly, in and out and any chip would expose the underlying unprotected steel.

Yeah I read it would turn black. And it seems it needs to be primed right away of oxygen would turn the steel white.

Didn't know how it was called before. Still, this doesn't tell us when it was done unless we know when those exact decals were made. :(

This eBay auction is selling a "bonderized" sticker (repro): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Claud-Butler- ... 2331486119 And it states: Claud was a Holdsworth's brand at one point. This, I think, kinda help to confirm that Peter, the second owner, most probably re-painted it a Holdsworthy and had...

Re: I also think it is not the original paintwork. Most probably it has been acquired BY this Peter who possibly has had it repainted at Holdsworth and a badge mounted on.

    Holdsworth Frame Numbers

Actually quite the opposite I think ? According to this: http://www.nkilgariff.com/Aluminium.htm Aluminium was scarcely available after the war, which is when brass badge was used for a bit. Before that it was readily available. However the same page states: So I think it could have been used...

Actually we have one fact wrong. Cyclone was built as a path up until 1936 for sure. I own the 1936 catalogue and it shows the Cyclone as a path/road bike or frameset only: https://1drv.ms/f/s!As8SZOqzOEnHtNlDSqhQTbqioI4MAw totally forgot about that piece of information. I still think the one...

I will surely share what I get back from VCC, in the meanwhile I've asked the seller to share all the info he has on it, and this is his reply this morning: Pretty intersting. Still not sure that's the original paint though.

It all seems to match the frame description here. Russ-style forks, fluted chain stays and rounded seat stays, Chater Lea fittings (at least the BB shell is clearly Chater Lea marked). It also looks remarkably similar to the one in the catalogue. I have however e-mailed the VCC's marquee...

I have noticed this has been added to the spreadsheet. However I believe is more from 1934 than from 1939. I have e-mailed VCC Hodsworth's marquee enthusiast to pick his brain on this. I have, fyi, won that auction and I'll be hopefully receiving it soon.

Moser Leader ax in Team gatorade chateau d'ax Dura ace 7402

Yeah the main issue with F.Moser frames is that at the times they were doing all things allowed and not, they didn't care much. So I am actually not surprised to see an SC painted and stickered like an AX, but I am quite sure that one thing they wouldn't do is make an SC frame and actually SELL...

Moser Leader ax in Team gatorade chateau d'ax Dura ace 7402

So, to recap, nice frameset, really, groupset is a great one in great conditions, paint not the original, but a repaint (albeit from the Moser shop), not a team bike. I hope I am not sounding mean or aggressive though!
