Early Post War Allin Frame ?

Just acquired another Allin. This time a very late one. It is a Stan Butler Special in pale blue with frame number 2303. I suspect that it is early 80's judging by the components. The seller told me that it is completely original, but I wish to check that it is. Anyone on here with a similar...

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

Re: By way of an update : I have been able to get the flanges removed from both F B hubs (along with an early Campagnolo and an early Gnutti) with little difficulty courtesy of Mick Madgett. I will have the barrels re chromed (retaining as much of the engraving as possible and without...

    Huret Champion Du Monde

Problem solved, and in case anyone else has difficulties : Grasp the toggle chain and twist anti clockwise to remove. Insert flat screwdriver into bell housing (needs to be parallel sided - like an electricians screwdriver) and locate 2 slots in the threaded collar at the bottom of the housing...

    Huret Champion Du Monde

It seems that my mech is not Huret Champion Du Monde. This was how it is described on Velobase. Dancing Chain calls is Huret Competion - part of the 1950 groupset that Huret produced - the bell crank/plunger assembly being the same as the Louison Bobet model. I want to get this apart in order...

    Huret Champion Du Monde

Thanks Terry I am familiar with the Simplex mechs. Much easier to take apart. The Huret is different in that the main shaft which carries the adjustment knurled ring and spring does not extend to the cage with the pulleys. I can find no way to remove the knurled adjuster - it simply adjusts to...

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

No. I have 2 Gnutti sets and neither have a number in this location. I expect that many manufacturers copies each others designs. Either way a nice set and quite rare.

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

They would re chrome quite nicely in my opinion. Look late 40's to early 50's to me and identical to Gnutti - as are others that I have seen. Which makes me wonder.....it was not unknown for manufacturers to badge for others - Magistroni certainly did ! If you decide to sell them I may well be...

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

Thanks Keith I suspected as much. Shame really as they are very nice quality. Still usable - just not very pretty !

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

I would expect a Fratelli crank set to be quite desirable. I assume that it is fluted with 3 arms - very similar to Gnutti cranks ? As to whether it is worth paying to get it re-chromed is another matter. Good plating is not cheap and the end result will be partly dependant upon how badly...

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

Anyone out there know the procedure for splitting alloy flanges from chromed steel hub barrels ? I have a very nice pair of late '40's Fratelli Brivio hubs that need re chroming and I understand that the flanges can be removed and put back. But how ?

    Claud Butler Frame Numbers

I have made some progress with this in as much that it seems that the first 2 or 3 numbers of a CB frame should give the date - Examples 91651 - would be January 1949, 883499 - would be August 1948 - 111742 - January 1951 - or is it November 1951 (These are all from actual frame) However, I find...

    Help ID Frame

Was a bargain ! Just a note about Claud Butler frames with osgear style drop outs - they normally have the letters CB stamped into them somewhere - this can help with identification as I doubt very much that CB drop outs would be on any other makers machines

    Claud Butler Frame Numbers

Judging by the number of queries relating to dating 'real' Claud Butler frames that keep appearing both here and elsewhere, I am posting this in the hope of generating some interest in this topic. OK - so we are talking frame numbers for the period up to the Holdsworth takeover - i e genuine...
