    Allin of croydon information needed

Could well be correct. Whoever made the frames - even if they were bought in - they still would have been branded 'Allin'. The 'Standard' model on Ebay does not have components anything near as high quality as yours. Assuming that the parts on your machine are original (and it would be...

    Allin of croydon information needed

The machine that you mention on Ebay has 'STANDARD' in the cartouche at the top of the seat tube decal. Note that this frame does not have wrap over seat stays as yours has. Yours appears to have Haden lugs and wrap over stays, but I must agree with Jon - they are very crudely fashioned when...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

Would be very interested see an example of the original that it was copied from. The whole purpose of this thread was to resolve this issue. When I spoke to Nick about this a while ago he informed me that the decal was originated from the cover of a Grubb catalogue.

    Allin of croydon information needed

I was told that frame 672 could not be a Stan Butler Special some time ago as they ALL had wrap over seat stays - which is why the frame had me baffled since the build quality and the decals indicated otherwise. Then I came across another 'Special' which I would date to 1951/2 with original...

    Allin of croydon information needed

I assume that the downtube reads 'Special Stan Butler Model' ? 2408 makes sense - it may well have been made by Cliff Shrubb but since it is so close to 2401 I could well be one of Cobbs. I suspect that you could have more or less what you wanted on the machine. Yours has Campy dropouts and hubs...

    Allin of croydon information needed

Hi Chris I have 2 Allin machines - one from ca.1949 (frame 672) and the other from late 79/early 80 (frame 2303 - picture below) Are you certain of the frame number ? The location is correct but the number seems high as I understood that the last recorded Allin frame number was 2401 (from 1981...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

sdp2112 - Indeed it was my frame that you will have seen in Diss. Small world ! I was very lucky to get hold of many of the original parts also so I know what should be on the frame. I asked Mick to remove the Gnutti BB for me as it was causing me some problems. A little work on the frame has...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

Grubb Downtube Decal I have attached an image of the down tube decal from my 1950 Grubb Perfection frame. This was a waterslide decal and i believe it to be original to the frame. This is because the frame has the 2 colour (red / gold) check seat tube panel (advertised by Grubb in the 1950...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

Thanks COUPS for posting the images of the Grubb machine. Have to admit that I am jealous - it is a very nice machine. I suspect that this is immediately pre-war in date, but I may be wrong. Grubb started frame numbering from number 1 (we think) after the company 're started' in early 1935...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

Thanks sdp2112, I know that Nick at Lloyds originated a script down tube decal copied from the design on the front of the 1950 catalogue (I believe this was at the behest of Hilary Stone) but am by no means certain that this design was actually correct for a frame decal. The reason that this has...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

In conjunction with the marque specialist of the V-C C, we are trying to resolve the confusion regarding downtube decals on F H Grubb machines that were used prior to the company liquidation in 1951. It seems that very few machines have survived with the original decals intact and we appear to...

    FRAME IDENTIFICATION

Very nice bike. I wondered about the lug lining. Clearly the frame has been repainted as the decals were obviously masked before the paint was applied. It follows that the lining must have been done after re painting. My frame has original paint (albeit in a poor state in some areas) but it...

    FRAME IDENTIFICATION

I agree. Great image ! I think you may well be right as he fell behind the leaders by about 5 minutes on the Galibier and then tried to catch them. He was (I think) 23 years old. Won the tour though. It is most certainly a Helyatt - the headbadge shape is distinctive. Note the Mafac brakes also...

    FRAME IDENTIFICATION

Quite clearly, the frame is worthy of restoring, and since I already have a number of components that are exactly right for it I will restore this one. It joins the queue behind 2 x Claud Butlers, an Allin, a F H Grubb and a Holdsworth (plus I have a 1930's BSA frame and a Brian Wilkins frame...

    FRAME IDENTIFICATION

After checking, I can confirm that the BB thread in English and clean (i e not messed around with or had a tap run through it) A company in N London were importing these bikes (or perhaps frames only) back in 1959 and I would guess that they specified the BB thread and probably built the bike...

    FRAME IDENTIFICATION

I have checked further and now have no doubt that it is : Helyett Speciale 1959. In fact the frame number is very close to that on the website that Terry has supplied the link to. There are a number of features that are identical and the 'shadow' of the original head badge fits also. I have no...

    FRAME IDENTIFICATION

Looks like you have nailed it Terry ! Too many similarities for it not to be. In fact the only difference I can find is the strange wishbone shape rear pump peg. As to how / why it has British components - I need to do some checking. They appear to be scarce bikes. I cannot find a great deal...
