    1949 FH Grubb....I hope.

Re: I have only just spotted this. This is really interesting since the down tube decal that you have photographed has confirmed that there is at least one other frame with this design. Close examination reveals it to match that on my 1950 Grubb Perfection - which in a way is curious as your...

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

I have now obtained a copy of the patent granted to Camillo Brivio of Brescia, Italy for steel barrel / alloy flange hubs. It was granted in London on March 16 1933 (patent number 389,155). I believe that this ran until 1958 and that all Campagnolo Gran Sport hubs up to this date would have been...

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

To round off this thread, the attached photo is of the FB racing crankset that was shown earlier in this thread, before restoration. The TA chainring is as supplied originally although FB did supply (make ?) their own chainrings. Having components re plated is certainly worthwhile although it...

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

Finally we have an end result ! Photos show 2 pairs of hubs : FB small flange racing hubs with axles/cones dated 1952/53 and FB large flange hubs with cones/axles dated 1949. Some loss of definition of the barrel engraving is inevitable - dependent upon the amount of corrosion. Finding hubs...

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

At last I have the first batch of steel hub barrels back from the platers ! In this case FB and Campagnolo. I have used 2 different platers for this experiment and only one has returned the items so far. So, more to follow later. They all take an eternity. However, the results are excellent. See...

Claud Butler Frame Numbers (Again !)

Apologies !A long time getting round this one ! Too many bikes in the workshop - never enough time The frame is a Cordon Bleu - no question. 72 deg parallel - no pump pegs - no lamp fitting on the forks (no other model fits this specification) This one has Simplex rear drop outs although...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

This image (red / gold) has been faithfully reproduced from the original down tube decal on my 1950 Grubb Perfection frame. (see image earlier in this thread). I have also had the original checker pattern seat tube panel reproduced as a vinyl decal to match (again exactly as the originals on my...

    Road Frames c.1975-85.. Un-vague us!

Again - very late to post on this thread - and this really is not my area of expertise, But.... My late 1979 / early 1980 Allin Stan Butler Special ( date provided by Roadking - Many Thanks !) has both twin Simplex braze ons for gear levers and a pair of braze on bottle cage bosses also. (Photo...

    Allin of croydon information needed

By way of an amendment to my previous post : The first mention of a Stan Butler 'Special' frame that I can find in 'Cycling' is in the 15 December 1949 issue, not January 1950 as posted. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has an Allin machine from around this time or the early 50's...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

My 'Perfection' frame is now with an artist who promises (at great expense !) to reproduce the decal as a flat line drawing which I will supply to Steve at Lloyd's. Once I have a scan of then line drawing I will post it on here also. It now appears that the 'queried' script design has turned up...

    Allin of croydon information needed

Thanks Terry Really interesting ad. I have Cycling more or less complete from 1949 to 1958 - they make very interesting reading. I have a few from the 30's and these are even more interesting in many ways. Just wish they had mentioned the machines that were in the illustrations (had to be...

    Allin of croydon information needed

I have researched further with respect to Allin bicycles in 'Cycling' During 1949 in the small ads Allin were offering 'The Stan Butler Model' in several issues at 15 guineas. In January 1950 the following appeared : 'ALLINS of Croydon. The new ''S B Special'' frame at 15 guineas ; the last...

    Allin of croydon information needed

Excellent ! Looking forward to seeing a copy of the 1948/9 price list and maybe perhaps a scan of pages from the frame book. This would enable us to know exactly what the Allin range was between WW2 and 1950 and would also determine the frame number system that was used post war. Then the...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

spd2112 I have only just noticed your comment regarding the Grubb DT decals with 'limited' in the underline 'tail' If this is an original decal it may well help to determine if the version that Lloyds have correct. Any chance of a photo please ?

    Allin of croydon information needed

More on Allin frames : I have acquired a further 2 Allin frames recently that may be of interest. The first of these has Ekla lugs and fits perfectly with the description in 'Cycling' from December 1948 describing the 'new' Stan Butler Model' (note use of singular - not 'models').This recent...

Claud Butler Frame Numbers (Again !)

Trying to pin down frame numbers for Claud Butler machines for the period immediately following the Holdsworth take over. I have recently acquired frame number 2533 which I date from approx. 1958-60. This number does not fit at all with the Holdsworth numbers from this period (5 figure) or with...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

I am certain that the Grubb V-C C marque enthusiast would like a copy of this. Any chance you could get a decent scan from the page ?

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

Nice to see the full specification added. Note the Webb steel brakes - I do not think that these were branded - maybe another reader may be able to answer this ? - and the 'Osgear' mech. I would be interested to know which publication this appeared in.

I see your point. I misunderstood your previous post. Presumably Allin continued selling these machinesm (Stan Butler models) after Peter Cobb died - hence the relatively poor quality of the frames ? Did they make them - or were they bought in ?
