    1948 Evelyn Hamilton

Still having no success in getting hold of decent photos of decals for my EH. All I need is a couple of good quality photos with dimensions then I can get a professional to re create the designs and they will be available to all at normal prices from H Lloyd. Surely someone out there can help ? I

Constrictor alloy rims are scarce - how about some replicas?

Have to agree with Little Al about constrictor rims. Also the comment about time tapes. All depends what you are trying to do though. If you are attempting a period correct restoration then the choice of rims is extremely limited. Most used Dunlop high pressure rims which rusted away (forget...

    1948 Evelyn Hamilton

Thanks - That would be most welcome. I talked to someone yesterday who had met her - but could not add anything to the story. I plan to restore the machine that I have but am struggling to establish the original design of the decals. I have the down tube decal as I know of two other frames...

    1948 Evelyn Hamilton

Do you have a frame number for this EH. I ask as I am trying to establish what the frame number sequence was. Mine has 2 numbers on both the bottom bracket and fork tube. I have a suspicion that one was applied by the maker of the frame (maybe Holmes of Welling ? ) the other by the shop...

Constrictor alloy rims are scarce - how about some replicas?

A colleague of mine has a pair of period Constrictor rims for sale - 26 x 1 1/4 inches if still of interest. My Evelyn Hamilton has Clement Albioni 26 x 1 1/4 rims on FB large flange hubs.

    Helyett speciale

Almost certain that Helyett were taken over (bought out ?) and then merged with Gitane which explains why Helyett disappeared. Bear in mind that Helyett was named after a French (of Hungarian descendancy ?) opera star which may not have been keeping with times in the 60's ! Gitane started in '63...

Evelyn Hamilton cycles - Appeal for information

Any owners of Evelyn Hamilton cycles who can supply photos / details etc. Please post. I am doing some research around this little known maker (given her exploits she should be more famous !)

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

Amazing ! Really superb. I bought a machine yesterday - Evelyn Hamilton - ca. 1949 with another pair of FB large flange hubs but cannot find date numbers on the cones. The rims are Clement Albioni clinchers - I have never seen these before that they really are very elegant. Photos later when I...

    Fratelli Hubs - Re chrome

I did read somewhere that Brivio had a manufacturing facility in France - or maybe had contracted someone in France to make them. I have also heard that these hubs have been seen branded Legnano and Simplex - but cannot confirm this as I have not seen them 'in the flesh' so to speak. I have seen...

    Helyett speciale

The green colour was Helyett own. One of the British manufacturers (may have been Holdsworth) offered 'Helyett Green' as an option such was the interest in Anquetil winning the TDF so many times. I would imagine that these machines are sought after in France. They very seldom come up for sale...

    1949 FH Grubb....I hope.

Probably be easier to find a new lever than just the adjuster for it. They turn up regularly as they were standard on many machines through the 50's. As to the freewheel, put some heat on it until the grease/oil boils/bubbles then try in a vice - it should move. I always use copper base grease...

    Helyett speciale

As luck would have it, the stove enameller called me today so this has gone for clear coat. I collected a bunch of frames that i have been waiting for - 3 x Claud Butlers, I x Allin plus 1 x Holdsworth. 2 frames need decals etc 3 frames now ready to build up As to the Helyett (frame number...

    1949 FH Grubb....I hope.

Another tip. If and when you remove the hubs, it is better to use a spoke key to loosen the spoke nipples - say every fourth one - then every third etc before you cut the spokes - in fact, it is better to use the key to unscrew the nipples totally rather than cutting the spokes, but it more time...

    1949 FH Grubb....I hope.

The crank / chain ring have date code AP. This means that Williams manufactured them in 1952. This fits perfectly with the date suggested. As to the freewheel / fixed wheel sprockets, it is better to get them removed BEFORE you cut the spokes out as it is nigh on impossible to remove a freewheel...

    Helyett speciale

I have just finished restoring a Helyett Speciale to original spec (or as close as I can get) This frame was one of those sold by Helyett (they had an office in Willesden, NW London) around 1960 and I am certain these were made specifically for the UK market as it has a British thread bottom...

    Allin of croydon information needed

Still waiting to see those scans of Allin price lists from the 1940/1950 period. Also the frame book ?

    1949 FH Grubb....I hope.

Hubs look like Bayliss Wiley Continentals to my eyes. I still think that this machine should have 27 inch wheels as I am certain that Grubb did not make this frame for 26 inch although Dunlop Special Lightweight rims would likely be correct. I assume that there are no gears since it has a single...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

At last another frame has turned up with the same style of down tube decal (albeit in blue). It is in extremely poor condition but enough is (was) visible to match it. Can be seen on here on thread titled '1949 Grubb....I hope' The frame in question (in my opinion) dates from 1951/2 - before the...

    1949 FH Grubb....I hope.

Looks very nice. I can see that the brakes are probably original as is the Williams chainset. This should carry a code on the back of both cranks and the chainring - something like AN or AP under the Williams EBW logo. The wheels are clearly later - to my eyes they look small - 26 inch rims ...
