    1948 Evelyn Hamilton

So - you are suggesting that all of it is fabrication ? Perhaps you are correct. Did it cross your your mind that the reason I have posted this is to answer that very question ? Clearly not. As to articles written in the press - well.....what can I say - we have been here before as you may...

    1948 Evelyn Hamilton

Further checking would seem to indicate that Ms Hamilton was not awarded with what is commonly termed 'The Cross of Lorraine'. A far more likely candidate would be the Médaille commémorative des services volontaires dans la France libre. This was awarded to over 70,000 recipients, the vast...

    1948 Evelyn Hamilton

The memorial is specifically to Evelyn Hamilton ? If so please confirm details. Yes I have read the Classic lightweights page. I assume that you have read the 'Cycling' article where she states that she parachuted 6 times into occupied France, never staying for longer that 2 days. She later...

    1948 Evelyn Hamilton

Evelyn Hamilton - WW2 Exploits - Authentic ? I have checked the records of the SOE for Evelyn Hamilton as if she was parachuting into occupied France during WW2 her name would be expected to be in their archives. However, I have found nothing. I have also looked for 'The National Journal'...

    1948 Evelyn Hamilton

Nice to have a bike bearing her name. I wonder how many have survived. I know of only 5 or 6 so far !

    1948 Evelyn Hamilton

This was published in the 21st January 1948 copy of 'Cycling'. It appears that it contains extracts from an article from 'The National Journal' (maybe worth seeking out the original article). Much has been written about Evelyn Hamilton's exploits during WW2 ; stories of shooting Gestapo officers...

Allin cycles head badge or frame.

Thanks ! The finish is good but not top draw. Still a nice frame and it will be interesting to see how it rides.

Allin cycles head badge or frame.

Neil, Just noticed that you used to work at Allin's back in the 80's. I will PM you regarding this

Allin cycles head badge or frame.

Thanks Neil. It has a Stronglight A9 headset and FAG bottom bracket. The frame number is 2514 and I suspect that it dates from something like 1985/6 ? There are some interesting features also which really attracted me to the frame. The first being the seat stays that are almost rectangular in...

Ghs Would be very interested to see pictures of your frame. I have just acquired an Allin frame of similar date. See photo below.

    Which Claud is my Claud?

Not sure if you ever established an I D for this but I can tell you that it is a little earlier in date than has been suggested. By my calculation the frame number would indicate a date of probably 1960 - possibly early 1961. As far as I can establish from known dateable frames Holdsworth...

    Helyett speciale

Hi Nice find ! This one has come from France originally - no question. My machine was sold by an importer in London (Helyett/Evian) and had some English threaded bits - like the bottom bracket etc. Your machine is much earlier than mine I suspect. The frame number will, probably give you a date...

    Allin of croydon information needed

thread resurrection! I have recently purchased frame set 1748. It would be interesting to compare. I believe mine to be a stan butler standard as it fits the description taken from ads on classic lightweights I.e. frame Angles lugs etc. Just need to work out how to upload! Ray I have frame...

    Helyett speciale

Still waiting for the Helyett frame to come back (nearly 4 months late !). However, I plan to collect next week and when built up I will post some photos on here. It seems that the frame number is the last 3 digits - the first 2 digits (59) are the year of manufacture. I acquired the frame minus...

    1948 Evelyn Hamilton

I now have access to photos of intact original decals thanks to the efforts of another VCC member who has kindly photographed them for me. There is still a little more to be done but I anticipate arranging for an artist to reproduce them some time by May. I will then get the decals reproduced. I...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

Another frame has now surfaced with a script downtube decal matching that which I had originated last year. We believe this frame was re finished by Grubbs in 1948/1949 at which point this decal would have been applied. I have now seen 3 frames sporting this design but have yet to see a frame...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

I remember this one now. Spray can black finish with 26 instead of 27 inch wheels ? It is an interesting frame and worth the time to establish whether is is a 'true' Grubb or a Holdsworth. The attached images show adverts from 'Cycling' - one from Jan 1952 - the other from Sept 1952. Both...

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

I have seen many Grubb frames in recent months so I regret that I cannot picture this one. Frame number alone will most likely give a good idea of date. Can you not supply this ?

    F H GRUBB FRAME DECALS

Not sure which frame that you are referring to. Frame number is the best guide. The decal that I have had originated would not have been used after Holdsworth took over the Grubb name and that was in 1952. Maybe post some pictures and a frame number and we can see what would be appropriate
