Great early MTB Brands that are not what they used to be...

For me it's at least as much about the people as it is the "brand". Many of the really great, visionary people are still involved in a very hands-on way... - Working as (mostly) 1-man frame builders: Potts, Sadoff, DiNucci, Cunningham, Gordon, Eriksen, Weigle, etc. etc. - Running the...

    Today's Ride

The Golden Gate Bridge (between San Francisco and Marin County) was closed to vehicle traffic this weekend for the installation of a new movable concrete median barrier — to replace the old plastic pylon system. The east sidewalk remained open for bikes and pedestrians. This is apparently the...

    Fat Chance Kickstarter

I would have expected the new Fat Chance to exhibit here: http://www.2015.handmadebicycleshow.com/exhibitors/ as it's by far their best opportunity anywhere in the world for exposure, etc. It's still about 2 months away... so it could happen I guess. Also interesting to see if the new Fat...

limitations on a modern retro build (drivetrain)

Chainline or crankarm/chainstay interference could be an issue depending on how long or short a BB spindle you choose to run.

    Today's Ride

No offense at all... and you're certainly not the first person to observe/wonder about that. A lot of this was covered in the bike's build thread: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... p;t=243086 And then also in discussion around the nomination and voting in the October 2013 BoTM...

    Today's Ride

Happy New Year to all! Last ride of 2014. A good friend of mine declared today “Wilderness Trail Bikes Wednesday” and that dictated the bike selection. A loop up around the Lakes… including the bike’s namesake. Artsy parts shots. And a final 2014 sunset behind Mt. Tam.

Bike of The Month December 2014 - Vote Now

Yeti, Merlin, (grey) Klein, Alpinestars and Grove got by the first cut (of things mass-produced, with suspension and/or too much color accessorizing). Merlin, Klein and Grove all drop because of the all-to-common pedal problem: No clips/straps on pedals designed for them. And although I'm not...

This is NOT a BOTM nomination thread - White Bikes

So close... But real California bikes don't have plastic mud flaps (or whatever that thing is called under the downtube).

BoTM October 2014 - Now Voting

Funny how different folks' perspectives can be. I've seen probably 10-20 different Otis Guy bikes and think of him as a Hall of Fame Inducted builder, Repack legend, Breezer Series I owner, and super nice guy. On the other hand, I'd never seen or even heard of a Falcon.
