Yeh I'm fairly certain the machined bits (on the left in this pic) actually catch the side of the plates and/or pins and pull it up. The chamfered bits (on the bottom in pic) do er, not sure. But without sideways movement none of these should affect an SS chain, so I would think it would be the...

I would think it's just the wider teeth, the ramps only catch the side of the chain coming from a smaller cog. But also, SS cogs have taller teeth, and a worn chain/cassette cog would be further in the opposite direction, shorter and worn teeth.

160mm is 567mm A2C, so at 140mm travel these will be 547mm. I didn't know they ever made them in 140mm, so I made a whole suite of air shafts myself in everything from 120mm to 180mm.

Any will do really, there's not much difference in a pressed piece of steel. But, a wide base is good to prevent gouging in the freehub, Halo make the Fat Foot, and Gusset make the Double Six...

For reference, a no.5 caliper fits a 165mm front and 145mm rear IS mount and a no.3 caliper fits a 185mm front and 165mm rear IS mount. None of the 2 piece calipers used 140/160/180 rotors, only 145/165/185. A Hope HBSM20H postmount frame/fork to IS caliper adaptor adds 20mm, therefore that...

I'm sure the forks I bought new in 2000 were Manitou X-Vert E, and had the brace like this red one with the 4 indents, but looking online now all the X-Vert E forks have just 2 indents like the black one, and the only one with the 4 indents are X-Vert Supers. Mine were definitely not called...
