Modern fork made to look like a retro fork.....

No, not me @klunkrider, I never got around to doing that with my old Pikes. This is another front on pic of the Zebs for you @lawson

Modern fork made to look like a retro fork.....

That would be easy enough to do - Filip Badura over in Poland did the Zeb decals and sized them to match the bigger legs with the amended name, plus the Santa Cruz Tazmon and Mavic 121 decals too.

    Fake Chinese bike parts

You literally quoted my post and said 'racist'.

    Fake Chinese bike parts

I'm guessing your reading comprehension leaves a little to be desired. I didn't say 'the majority of Chinese people', which would definitely be a racist generalisation, I said 'the majority of the Chinese fakery', clearly reducing it down to a specific subset; i.e people involved in...

    Fake Chinese bike parts

Not bold, they're fairly standard claims which have been backed by many, many investigations and reports over the years by numerous people and organisations worldwide. As an example from: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/ipo-counterfeit-goods-research/ipo-counterfeit-goods-research...

    Fake Chinese bike parts

It's still theft, and someone has lost out by having their product devalued by replication and either lost the sale, or not been rewarded for the design effort they have put in. Fake/counterfeit goods are a major problem and in some cases have links to organised crime and money laundering etc...

    best XT iteration?

I'd actually forgotten some of that. Shimano headsets were lovely but I do think the XT one was the best of them, even more so than the M900 XTR. I think from a nostalgia perspective M739 was on the whole the best for me, but the M737 STI shifters just felt so solid and bombproof than the later...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

Lots of people end up way over biked and so the climbs become a slog and the descents not much better - so many uplifts have enduro bikes on them these days, usually more than DH bikes! I'll admit that at 38lb my Megatower is a pig on the climbs, it's got ultra soft Conti DH tyres, a coil shock...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

Oh gawd, heaven forbid you stray from the exact topic allowed by the thread title 🙄 It's all the same stuff; bits of metal arranged in different ways. Old stuff was objectively less capable but had infinitely more character and new stuff is objectively more capable but generally soul-less. And...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

I've actually got a wee Worx pressure washer which I use after most rides for cleaning up. It's pretty effective to have in the back if the car and doesn't seem to have enough pressure to damage bearings - still on the original frame/wheel/headset bearings after 7k-ish km. I'd say that's...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

People always say that Aluminium is impossible to repair but if you have a welder who isn't a complete monkey it's fine. The trick is to putting as little energy as possible into it, and using a high percentage of silicone like 5% so that the weld isn't super rigid. I've had numerous frames...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

That's true, the hubs on my dad's Cannondale that I've just restored have something like 12k miles on them and are still on the original bearings, and they still feel better than modern stuff. I think some stuff lasted longer but didn't work as well too; my M950/2 XTR mechs lasted forever...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

Exactly. I've ridden hundreds, probably thousands of bikes. Most have been high end, and at the upper end of technology in both DH and enduro. And they're wonderful for what you can do with them and the lines you can take, suspension and brake technology really has transformed modern bikes, as...

Bought the cheapest M1 on the net - help with ID and specs?

I reckon Filip would be able to do a good job on them based on him producing the Rotec decals for me from pictures. Yeah, I've not actually seen one of those HT badges in the flesh, only the flames and later FRO ones.

Bought the cheapest M1 on the net - help with ID and specs?

Possibly my most hated paint finish ever, even more so than camo, but if it makes you happy that's what counts! One of the guys who raced years ago did this and I remember him saying mud got stuck in all the cracks and it was a nightmare to keep clean, so bear that in mind if you're planning to...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

Yikes, make a generic statement and have it pulled apart by everyone with the exceptions! I thought it was only old Sachs stuff that was compatible with Shimano, rather than the SRAM ESP stuff? I might be mis-remembering that though. SRAM did do Rocket (X7 equiv) and Attack (X9 equiv) RH 9spd...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

Based on the last thirty years of using Shimano I'd suggest fortuitous accident, but equally Shimano were later to the party with 12spd so who knows? Either way it meant I got to get rid of the crap plastic SRAM X01 rear mech when it finally bent itself beyond saving, albeit the Shimano cable...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

However, conversely 12spd is compatible between SRAM and Shimano which is a first. Quite handy as it means the X01 shifter I have paired with the XTR mech works perfectly.

    Giant atx1 dh Toby hunt

Without anything on there saying 'proto' etc I'd be inclined to say that's a bog standard production ATX with a shorter shock and fork. I don't think it's anything unique I'm afraid, but they're still not that common these days so even taking that into account you're likely to find someone...
