    PDM TVT 1990 season

An interesting build that has captured my attention! I love Concorde, and of course TVT. I think the accuracy of components will pay off in the end, and any compromises should always be small and the least visible. Things like front and rear mechs are too visible to get wrong when you've gone...

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

No, follow the picture from my build. The washers are to push the IS to post mount further in if necessary, so they line up with where the caliper wants to be. It won't be necessary for all, but seem need it more than most. Remember that there wasn't a defined industry standard when these frames...

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

Re: Hello, I have much experience with these conversions, having made many of them now. The adapter plate you're using seems to be the other version, and it's a little too long for the purpose. I can put you in touch with a guy who had a batch made, and that will fit perfectly. You need a...

Marin experts - are the DH FRS, B17, Wolf Ridge the same?

Pre 2000 is 30mm. After that it went to 27.0mm for one year. Narrower and lighter tubes on that model. Although the weight is negated when you consider that there aren’t any light 27.0mm seat posts! Which is why I always chose the 30mm and shimmed it down to 27.2mm when building a lightweight.

    It’s time to come clean..

GT-85 contains PTFE or Teflon, which is dispursed into the air and our nostrils with that sweet smell we love so much. However, I'm increasingly concerned that it might not actually be good for our health as Teflon is considered carcinogenic when ingested! I have 3 cans sat on the shelf which...

Marin experts - are the DH FRS, B17, Wolf Ridge the same?

Re: Re: It's the same as a B-17 and a DH-FRS. Eventually I will offer my frame and forks for sale as per the bike in the link above.

Marin experts - are the DH FRS, B17, Wolf Ridge the same?

In short, the Mount Vision has 100mm/4 inches travel, and the B-17 has 140mm/5.5 inches. The placement of the shock in the swing arm is at the same point in relation to the seatpost on each frame. The shock size is accommodated by welding the shock mount closer or further away from this on the...

Marin experts - are the DH FRS, B17, Wolf Ridge the same?

I've had so much time in the saddle with these bikes, and have researched and tested first hand what does and doesn't work for them. Some pointers and advice worth summing up and giving out... What was once classed as a downhill travel bike is now really modern xc, so ride it as such! I used...

Marin experts - are the DH FRS, B17, Wolf Ridge the same?

See here... viewtopic.php?f=21&t=348117&hilit=Marin B-17, Wildcat Trail, and DH FRS are the same. There were three main variants for ease... 165mm Shock 190mm Shock (maybe even 185mm I’m getting old) 200mm Shock Front ends are not compatible between models, but the rear swing arms are fully...

Marin B17 98, refurb, and Ebike conversion.

The disc mount is a non standard one that is very difficult to work around. Marin corrected this a year later and adopted the more traditional IS style. 2 years later, they faffed around with it again and utilised a bolt on alloy adapter bracket (which is now very difficult to obtain). The best...

Not quite Retro-yet question on Campagnolo Carbon cranks

Does anybody know for sure what BB length was used on the 2003/4 Campagnolo Carbon Record square taper cranks? I think it’s 102mm, but there’s a small niggle of doubt in the back of my mind somewhere. Cheers

    Action-Tec still around?

I was wondering if anyone knew whether Action-Tec was still trading in Silverado, California? I’ve used their Titanium BB’s for many years without issue, and I’ve recently acquired a Merlin Titanium that needs a different length, and taper BB. My ‘go-to’ would have been Action-Tec but every...

Collarless BB axle (prefer Titanium) ISO taper 102mm

Re: Collarless BB axle (prefer Titanium) ISO taper 102mm/111mm I doubt anyone would bin numerous collarless axles as they're totally reusable. Especially if they're Titanium. The key word is collarless.

Collarless BB axle (prefer Titanium) ISO taper 102mm

As per the title, it's got to be ISO taper for Campagnolo, and I'm hunting 102mm. The other option is one that's got a central collar or sleeve to keep the bearings in place such as Royce or Hope, and I'll machine it back to a straight 17mm diameter. Thanks

    1991 Marin Team Titanium

Re: Re: Quite true - largely down to price I think. Merlin frames were almost as dear as a car back then. I seem to recall the Marin was about £1100 which was in line with Litespeed too. The Merlin was double that and more.

    1991 Marin Team Titanium

They’re great frames to build on. Pretty much the same as 1990 with the exception of the ‘91 having a beefier headtube. When I think back it was always me and my ‘90 Team Titanium. I must have rode it as my only bike for at least a decade. The problems only ever arose when I tried to find longer...
