    1991 Marin Team Titanium

Yes, it’s a Litespeed built frame, manufactured in March 1991, and the first year of the afterburner dropout. The pictures attached are all before it was polished.

    1991 Marin Team Titanium

Well, this one’s a slow burner for sure! I’m too busy with so many other things at the moment, but I managed to get some time today, so started building the front end up. It’s more involving than you think, as threads need chasing, fork crowns need to be a touch narrower, plus rebuilding the...

    1991 Merlin Titanium

Well, I was inspired to get the Merlin out for a ride today. I sold a Look 586 to a guy last night, and we had a tour of my bike collection which sparked my mind to ride one of them. I had to fit a water bottle as it was 23C in the sunshine. I also packed a 7mm Allen key in my back pocket as...

    1991 Marin Team Titanium

I’m no stranger to Marin’s Titanium offerings, but it’s been a good while since I built up my last one. I’ve had this one sat patiently waiting for longer than I can remember now. In fact, I don’t even recall where it came from! I stripped all its decals and prepped the scuffed and faded surface...

    1991 Merlin Titanium

After we’d taken the photos my mate thought it would be a good idea to try and video the bike somehow. He key sending bits through, and the video would go back and forth making small changes here and there until we were both happy (or fed up). I said it needed some music, and went straight to a...

    1991 Merlin Titanium

Apologies for the slow reply, but I don’t frequent here much anymore. In answer to your second question… I trust Time forks and I’ve seen them used on Merlin frames in the past. I was never happy with the aluminium fork, especially after three decades of use! Time was also a company that Greg...

    1991 Merlin Titanium

A mate came over with some expensive camera equipment as he wants to photograph some of the bikes, starting with the Merlin. Anyway, I thought I’d post a few of them up here.

    1991 Merlin Titanium

No, oddly enough. I was contemplating a Regal Titanio, but this one is more in keeping with the correct timelines. Plus, I was toying with some lightweight skewers, but I think it’ll steal some of its class. I’ll keep pondering, and then eventually weigh it when I’m done 😂

    1991 Merlin Titanium

It’s the owners desire to make them look somehow stealthy. Unknowingly making them quite bland, and ‘heavy’ looking in the process as you say. I’ve enough Litespeed MTB’s next to it to keep me satisfied.

    1991 Merlin Titanium

Thanks for the appreciation. The test ride! A few notes made for tweaking back at home; nothing major, just a few adjustments. Unknowingly, I found myself at the exact same spot I took my very first full C Record build on its first test ride in 1991. How does it ride? Smooth, really smooth...

    1991 Merlin Titanium

30 years of yearning this precise build is finally over. Influenced by watching my hero, Greg Lemond using one in the 91 TDF. It was a dream that carried into early 93, and the only changes I made to that dream were the updated rear mech, and the new Ergopower levers. I did run Time Titan...

    Marin team Titanium?

No problem. If you contact Litespeed then they can tell you the manufacturing date.

    Marin team Titanium?

This is a Litespeed built 1991 Marin Team Titanium. It’s been media blasted at some point in its life, as these were originally polished. The 4 digit number dates it 1991, and is typical of Litespeed made Marin frames.

rBoTM RBotM June 2021 - Open Month - Nominations open!!!!

1990 Raleigh Dyna-Tech Cronos with Dura Ace 8 speed. Rescued from near death, with a very careful, and sympathetic restoration to try and retain as much of the original paint and components as possible. Somebody had treated it to a life outside, and rattle can paint job in black! The decision to...

    PDM TVT 1990 season

That's a great photo Pat, and I'll happily stand corrected. Back in the early 90's I only ever recall seeing them lugged, and then in 92/93 I saw a few one piece head tubed versions in local bike shops, hence why I assumed they were a later model. The resources available for viewing these...
