    1983 Kuwahara: restore or mod?

Not so much "what's it worth" but "is it more than the sum of parts" ... Kuwahara mountain bike, 1983 by the serial number, no other model or brand stickers, just "Kuwahara." Storage-shed find, not pristine but in good shape. Bought it for the wheels and components, figuring I have enough in...

    Cheap and Nasty

Google Image Search thinks it's a Raleigh, which is interesting, seems they did make several bikes with that name. Which may not be saying much; back in the 80's, anything or anybody could potentially be called "Magnum" for marketing purposes. Margaret "Magnum" Thatcher, for example.

GT Avalanche 1998 - Project "Tequila Sunrise 2.0"

Very nice build. Krylon has a marble effect rattlecan. Kinda comes out looking like silly string. Frankly I think yours looks better but it could be an option if somebody wanted a less labour-intensive option. Great job on prep. Key to the whole ballgame, it seems. While I can work with...

GT Aggressor 3.0 my first project

If you have anything other than a functioning 8-9-10 speed hub out back, let us know... if not, the most common answer might be "leave it like it is," ie learn to love 3x7. Dig through the bins at the bike co-op for a vintage Shimano bb (and a functioning rear wheel, if necessary) and leave it...

    Ultimate retro mud-plugger?

Kona pretty much ticks all the boxes. Ya don't want to get too gross. Frankly, I don't think Konas are even a little gross, yet they go for a half to a third of the price of better-known brands (around here, anyway). Bought one to flip, and I'll be danged if I'm not thinking about keeping that...

That Scott brake is really growing on me, I know some don't like em but I'm kinda digging it. Currently in process of tearing it down for full restoration, build thread to follow. Interestingly the rear dropouts have been spread to 133 mm. PO was using the old noodle, good thinking there...

Gorgeous. Not many Italian v brake levers out there

    NOS FRM/Venturi Build

Some new goodies for the bike 1. Centaur hubs, 135. Appear new, never mounted. Have mental image of the dudes wife, "Nobody is gonna give you $150 for those old things, you're NUTS" 2. FRM v brakes 3. Guess FRM was out of brake levers, and am having a hard time finding anything I'm really in...

130mm Rear Hubs. What You Using?

Far as Suntour is concerned, if you look at old Suntour catalogs, it appears the XC pro did come in 130mm. Looks to me, the difference between the 135 and 130 is the spacer. At least for the 7 speed (non-microdrive) hub. Fixing to build one up and saw it off to fit, I'll let you know how it...

Yeah the Scott brake is interesting but I don't like the aesthetics. I have an XT canti to slap on there

Got the wheels covered, have some nos Ritchey rims ready to go. May put my Suntour xc pro hubs in there. Not catalog correct but I gotta build em up eventually... I figure there's no such thing as too much garlic, or too much ritchey

Interesting! Kinda cool what a tight community it was bitd I thought this bash guard was ridiculous but he said that's *very* period. He says these Scott brakes had high tech, somehow keep a constant toe in no matter how hard you brake. And he digs the magura levers, says he used em on all his...

Ah someone finally noticed ... Guy (my age) hollers out from across the street, what's that, a Gary Fisher? A Ritchey??? Turns out he used to run a BIG bike shop in New York. He gave me this tool. And also half an XT canti. Says he will gimme the other half, too, if he can find it Apparently...

Haha I gave him 50 extra. So, a $250 frame and a $150 donation. That's my story and I'm sticking to it ;) Fancy frame. Very light, delicate forks. Nifty ovalized seat tube. So I guess these were the early days of his collaboration with Tange? Went for a ride today, it's running well...

Probably an 87, not finding a ton of info out there. The Ascent described in this article isn't a bad match ... Tig welded 4130 ... XT rd and Deore fd ... Cranks don't match but otherwise... Maybe? Should be fun to ride anyway.
