Oh righty. Sounds totally delightful. ;) Brilliant -I think I can almost see your place from this side of the Severn...obviously not now, cos its dark. But work in the same place I wrekkon... Still laughing about 'Muggers Alley' 10 mins later -got me that one!

Similar set up Glug -28 rear is my biggest/ but 32 front to compensate. 13- 32 be good.. the LX is so long legged sure it can cope with a wide range of ratios.

Thank you -superb info... I think over time this bike will just get more and more tweeked and refined, gonna be a loooooong relationship I rekkon. I'll start with front chainring, and then evaluate, work out what would suit my riding at the rear - early days at the mo, settings are rough, but...

Well found Specialites TA 28T, and a smaller 26T chainrings... £32.50 (inc P+P) from a Mr Stigg on Ebay. 26T down from 32T on smallest chainring may be a challenge for that old Gen 1 Campy front deraillier? -Looking at it, think the chain will clear the lowest part of the shifting cage (is that...

Thx Non-fixie, good vid too -think I can do something with all the spares lying around here. Smaller crank cog would help - 28 down from 32 sounds cheaper first option to try ;) There's a guy in Newport who sets up bikes for racing and Velo track -did some wheels for me years ago...he'd be the...

Righty -we're 100 miles of road in, and initial report on the bike... Love it. It's the tourer that I was always after. -Takes a bit to realise you're not on ally/carbon -so the feel is slightly flexy, possibly fragile? Once you get used to that, it soaks up the road chatter really nicely...

Ok -went for some cheepo bars and Sora levers/shifters =all good! She's delighted, and planning a canal day from Pontypool, via Aberfaraway to Brecon...success -although, stem might be a tad too short, so will try the 70mm one again. The Northroad/Swept shape was a bit of an issue on tight...

Ribble, Quinn, Argos, Carlton, Bob Jackson, Dawes, Holdsworth, near endless list of superb machines... Plenty out there, but as Bikeworkshop says, like panning for gold, need to sift a lot of dirt to find those nuggets -but they are there. As example, don't know yer budget, but up now a...

There's some really fab top end older 70's/80's machines out there -Eddy Merckx era... Pug PX10, Raleigh Team Banana/RRA -Raleigh Record Ace...TBH I'm outta my depth with anything younger than 1960, want to know about rare pre-war bikes/parts I'm there, so can't really advise here- Just to...

With old stuff -as said by Non-Fixie + Bikeworkshop -Headstock is the give away, and centre BB to top top tube too -just to be sure ;) Bought an old FW Evans, late 40's/early 50's time capsule -asked the seller to measure -58cm. They'd measured short and the thing had 630/ 27x 11/4 wheels...

    A Jammy find

Have a Malvern Star OPPY C7-and the colours are pretty Marmite, Black Red and White -they did some very cool C7 Team colour combo's for Pacific Rim racing series that they were blitzing - but I didn't think this was one of them. Bit too loud for me, and design was way out there 14 + years ago...

    Bike Size

See, I'm the same -Centre BB, top top tube... But like you say -different makers, and to nearest 1/2" round up too. 23" used to be standard men's size 58-60cm -and most common on pre-70's bikes certainly -pre-war smaller frames dominated 20", 21", 22" and half sizes in between. Beyond that up...

Hijack question -apologies in advance Yorkielad. Q? So what is the recognised way of measuring old frames? -some seem to measure from bottom of BB to top of top tube -other's centre of Top tube...always seems to be a bit of guesswork when buying a frame.

    A Jammy find

Stunning Frame -What luck! Cool back story too bud- clearly meant to be. :) Hope you don't mind -Just an observe, now it's scuffed, you could hit it with 2500/3000 Wet+dry grit to get rid of scratches and then another coat of Clearcoat lightly to saturate/protect and pop the colour where it's...

Sora levers arrived -brand new... dee -lighted. Got a widget to shim out the pivot angle to encompass V-brakes on each lever -pretty natty I thought.

    Going Straight

Short stem...think you had it nailed 5 pages back Bikeworkshop. Once told -as a bit of advice: 'Two ears, one mouth use them in that ratio' Still learning that one -just shows yer never too old to make stoopid mistakes by not heeding good advice. Ditch the Renthals, too much hastle...order a...
