Festive Frolics 2021 - Aftermath and pics

Aye it was brilliant, best bit of cycling I've had in over a year. Tomorrow brings the thorough bike clean though as toward end of ride neither the front or rear gears were working right through the accumulation of mud😁 At one point the track was so slick I was cycling sideways, proper fun😊

    Does 2010 count as retro?

What the fluffy chicken says is true so get on over to 98+. After all its where all the best bikes are😎👍

Festive Frolics 2021 - Aftermath and pics

I'm going for comfort first and foremost as my old bod just can't handle the committed ride style of an xc bike anymore. So for me it's my sit up and beg Trek FX hybrid with 38mm wide tyres. I'll just have to deal with the boggy ground as best I can to trade up to easier hardpack/tarmac riding...

Only one likely going to drink in pub is Keith as most will be driving, why does that not surprise me😅

    What happened here? ‘Widened Forks’

Get an old rear axle and a couple of tracknuts and tighten kthe nuts to pull fork blades together. Steel is pretty robust and can survive bends that are not extreme and those have not suffered extreme bending. Possibly best check they have been bent offline to same amount. Align a string or...

    27.5 has surprised me.

Plus if I knew who "they" were, then it wouldn't be a rumour.

    27.5 has surprised me.

Always amazes me how folk read a bit of a post then ignore the rest and fly off the handle. Read the last line, in it I qualify what I've typed. "Rumours are rumours, not facts!"

    Does 2010 count as retro?

My definition of retro is a bike from the past that is no longer made. I don't agree with the idea of retro being fixed in stone and not moving forward as time progresses.

    English Roadster, Educate Me Please

Best bet is a Raleigh as shown by others but if your not wanting tons of weight a clubman style is best. A Raleigh Lenton is a classic example of this. Maybe not as slack angled as a full on roadster but usually SA hub equipped and often made of a good steel alloy. As for gearing, it can be...

    27.5 has surprised me.

They say 27.5 is on its way out, its not different enough from 26. The future is 29ers apparently which does make sense. In reality 27.5 is nearer 27" and that's only one inch bigger than 26 so a bit pointless really. But rumours is rumours not facts.

    27.5 has surprised me.

Just as an experiment I bunged some 27.5 wheels with 2 inch wide tyres on my late 90's Univega 7300 FS. They fit perfectly well and one set of my old v brakes reaches the rim braking surface without modification so it v brake rear and disc brake front. I had convinced myself nothing would work...

Festive Frolics 2021 - Aftermath and pics

Get on the numerous Facebook bicycle related groups, they have saved my sanity. Cycloshite is my favourite but also member of Raleigh and Dawes groups and others. All free and loads of like minded nutters to chat with. Best bit is if you know something there is always someone pleased to learn...

Festive Frolics 2021 - Aftermath and pics

Booger, kids are just walking culture vessels for bugs. If your one of the technically clued in then now is the time for a boxset splurge of drama etc on the telly box. Keep well, keep warm and get better mate. As for the deafness in the left ear Hawmaw, that's just auld age. I'm half deaf in...

Festive Frolics 2021 - Aftermath and pics

Side effects of Covid can be the Long Covid which is basically like ME which I have had for years. Advice, don't push yourself to get back to normal quickly, that'll do you more harm than good. Look up Pacing on Internet and follow that guidance. Hopefully none of you get the long Covid but...

Agree, short option best, baring in mind most retrobike events have average speeds of mid to low single figures😂

Keith do you mean Pittencreiff Park or is there another park called Pittendreigh that I don't know about? Also where is best to park my car?

    And today I did......

Hmmmmm, my Universal bicycle weighs more than the collection of mighty books from which this report is extracted. I fear not enough hydrogen exists to float the creations of Universal Cycles Ltd.

    MacRetro chat and rides thread

Brian, look at Reyt Pack in the rides and events section, it's got you written all over it. I will be testing out my entry on 3rd January for our festive frolic ride if that's allowed to go ahead🤔
