Altus A20 was a budget group set superseded by Acera X, Alivio, STX, LX, XT then XTR... I think that's the order at least. There were lower spec group sets but Altus was the start of the serious about it stuff.
What a puzzler! Definitely Saracen. The cable lines on the frame look right for '93-'94' but that stem seems to come from the '90's catalogue. Makes me think the guys at Saracen found a box of old stems, headsets and chucked them on the newer frames and called it a limited edition. I'd say the...
A couple of ideas, take the bottom bracket out and feed the penetrant in through the seat tube while the bike is upside down.
Second, get a nylon strap style oil filter removal tool which should be able the grip and twist the post without marking it.
Whatever you do good luck.
That is awesome! I'd doubt many made it passed the repeated attempt to wheelie that bent the front forks out or were just tossed when adulthood turned attention to cars and other halves. Great bit of nostaligia.
Crap job on the part of the bike shop mechanic indeed. I'm no pro but the first rule clamping in a steel jaw vice is make sure your clamping the right bit before cranking up the pressure. I usually go with the technique of clamping the B/B tool in the vice and lowering the frame and B/B onto the...
I've just bought a Saracen Pro Trax that has a Turner Tempest Front hub in the wheelset. The rear wheel has the same FIR rim but looks to have used the old Shimano LX hub the bike should have come with. This old post is the only thing I can find on the internet about them. Cheers for posting BITD.
Apologies SGC I was nosing through old post when I found your reply. I must've seen it, meant to reply and then forgotten but if you still have thise frame and forks I would be interested in pics and negotiating a price. Let me know.
Yep believe it or not I've been hunting for some time for one of these that I bought new from Halfords but had stolen all while I was in University.
Before you tell me about the one on eBay, I know about it and it's missing the original front forks and is way over priced IMO.
In a combination of Shimano STX-RC canti brake bits I've recently bought I have wound up with the 3 front specific pads and carriers but only one rear.
Has anyone got a spare rear right (from the riders view) STX-RC pad carriers available that I could purchase? It doesn't have to have a pad I...
