    1991 Cannondale SM700 - ridden at OWMTBC

Crikey, nearly three years have elapsed :/ Dragged this out of the shed, blew the cobwebs off, fitted a few bits I'd been gathering -- DX levers, Turbo saddle, more appropriate tyres. Needs riding :)

    Build a lean to

Shed/greenhouse guttering's only 3in wide, you should be able to support the ends of your beams on top of the wall and still have space for the guttering. 2in of overlap will be enough for the ends of the beams. Mine's got 4x2 wall plates, 3x2 beams going crossways and 2.5x1.5 (or 50x38 I expect...

    App vs computer

Some of Garmin's hiking-oriented GPS units have actual compasses in. I don't think any of the bike ones do, though.

    Build a lean to

I guess the tricky part with the OP's plan is that he (I think) wants to bridge between the house wall and a wall on the boundary, so water run-off isn't as straightforward as adding guttering to a facia. You'd have to have some sort of channel/gutter on your side of the wall. I think you could...

    Build a lean to

The plastic's pretty light, but worth overbuilding a bit in case it snows ;)

    Build a lean to

I used the corrugated stuff. You can get flashing pieces that are corrugated to sit on top of the sheets and flat to go up the wall. I just used self-adhesive flashband stuff over that and onto the brickwork. It's been there a few years and not leaked yet. Part-built: Weekend project by...

fines for taking kids on holiday ?

Parents who see no value in education is a bigger problem than just taking kids out of school for a few days, though.

fines for taking kids on holiday ?

It appears to be up to heads to decide what "exceptional circumstances" are, and that heads "can", not "must", refer cases to the local authority to issue fines. You're likely to still come out ahead even with the fine, so it's a bit of a nonsense. My personal view is that a few days out at the...

fines for taking kids on holiday ?

Ask the school. Ours is reassuringly pragmatic about it, as long as you're not taking the piss.

    Your wrong!

I don't know where Chopper stands on the political spectrum (because I've not been paying attention) but it seems to me that calling out a paper called "The Independent" for actually having a leaning is necessarily the same as equating leftiness with baditude.

"Rural" isn't the same as "wilderness", you know :)

    700x45 isn't a 29er anyway ;)

in car socket adapters....who uses them?

Usually a 10A fuse for the socket, worst that'll happen is that you pop that. Phone chargers/satnavs are less than 1A. DVD will be a bit more, but you'll struggle to get to 10. Just don't try plugging a massive inverter and a microwave into it ;)

    Blatant begging

Did it! Not within 24 hours, though, turned out to be a bit of a big ask. Just under 30, which is a fairly long day out ;) http://app.strava.com/activities/64326316

    Helmets Save Your Bonce

Pfft. I got told off for arguing against helmet compulsion because apparently no-one was arguing for it :) Anyway. The effectiveness (or otherwise) of helmets at an individual level has nothing to do with the benefits (or otherwise) of helmets at a societal level.
