    Bent Tange Switchblades?

    +1 for bent.

so Marin and ATB sales part ways then?

The bike industry is its own worst enemy sometimes. Especially this year, when as well as the standard six months between new bikes arriving in shops and the next lot of new bikes being announced (that six months having the crappiest weather of the year as Jon says), they're all faffing about...

    Yo Eddy questions

Possibly the seller has measured the internal diameter of the headtube, which is a tiny bit bigger than 1 1/4in (actually 33.8mm or about 1.3in) for a 1 1/8in steerer tube.

    Offroad challenge...ideas?

This is all probably in the wrong bit of the forum, isn't it? Anyway. South Downs would need to be there and back for a proper ride. It's 100ish miles each way, so 4-5 leisurely days. Very little road -- some lanes between Winchester and Petersfield, but the rest of it the only time you touch a...

    Offroad challenge...ideas?

The proper Tim Woodcock Coast-to-Coast is the obvious one. Or there's the Highland Trail Race if you're feeling particularly mental :) South Downs Double if you want to stay local, or for more variety you could probably work out a pretty decent North/South Downs loop.

Ebay bidding, what do you favour

If I see a car I'm interested in, I arrange to go and see it, have a good look, poke around, go for a test drive. After that I decide if I want to buy it, and how much I'm prepared to pay. I'm struggling to believe that anyone thinks it's reasonable to "commit" to buy first, then inspect and...

Ebay bidding, what do you favour

"Buy it now" means exactly that. If you want to satisfy yourself that something is as described, do that first. If someone did a "buy it now" and then started asking questions and requesting more photos, I'd tell 'em to stick it. Especially if they "took their time". That's time during which...

Ebay bidding, what do you favour

How long do you think you'd stay on ebay's affiliate system if you tried that? Clue: Not long :)

Anyone work (or worked ) as a cycle instructor.

How long has "not swearing" been the same as "patronising"?

worn / damaged rear dropouts (steel frame)

Re: wrong size rear axle diameter? - any advice? Does it fit in either side? Sometimes a slightly bent derailleur hanger makes the entry to the drive-side dropout narrower than it ought.

    Bespoked Bristol on the move

I'll definitely be going -- I'd prefer to visit Bristol than London, but the velodrome will be a great venue. And they definitely need more space :)

Small speaker design - advice/info needed

You don't need a PCB or to worry about the phone output. Use a mono jack plug, it bridges the L and R outputs in the headphone socket and sends it all to the single speaker.

    Free School Meals

Read it again (or possibly for the first time). That's _estimates_ of fraud, not actual known-and-counted cases. They _know_ they haven't got them all, that's how many they reckon they've not got. They could be wrong, but they've got margins of error and a degree of confidence that they're not a...

    iPad and ios7 update?

I'm not surprised. There are tens of millions of the things out there, nearly all of them will get updated, even if 99.5% of them go without a hitch the 0.5% that's left is still a big number. But probabilistically, not that lucky ;)

    Recommend me an email service

I use gmail, but I don't use the actual site unless in an emergency -- I use Thunderbird (IMAP to gmail) on PCs and phone's mail app. Works great once it's all set up.

    iPad and ios7 update?

iPhone 4 here, seems entirely happy on 7. No weirdnesses, a couple of apps seem to have got a bit flaky but I'm not that surprised, I dare say there'll be updated versions along shortly. No resets necessary beyond the reboot that it does by itself when it updates. I don't think I've actually...

I need to reinstall old version google maps

I don't think you can reinstall it, because you've not really installed it in the first place -- it's a web app, it all runs on Google's servers.

NEC Cycle Show Ticket prices - a rant

I left the NEC at about 6.30pm yesterday -- all the car park pay stations were shut with signs saying "pay on exit", the barriers at the exits were up and unmanned. I never pay for parking when I arrive, so that was a win ;) This year was better than last year -- the show actually went all the...
