Various jerseys, shorts, DH pants, DVDs

Mostly only just post-1998, but that's the line, so here it is. Exciting simple pricing structure -- if it's a pair of shorts it's £10 inc UK post, if it's anything else it's £15 inc UK post, by bank transfer please. Measured sizes are approximate and as a guide only :) Voler RockShox jersey...

Now we have to say goodbye to both our lovely cats

Rubbish :( We had similar -- brother and sister, one went and the other quite quickly went downhill and didn't last much longer. They had a good innings, though.

    Have I turned patriotic?

Eventually -- the royal family costs the taxpayer about £30 million a year. Although apparently that wedding the other year contributed £107 million to the UK economy, and it can be argued that in general the presence of a royal family boosts tourism to the extent that it's at least...

    I was gobsmacked

I'd say it's quite rare for a mere glance to lead to an accident (and I'm taking a glance to be literally that). In this case, the driver continued to "glare" at the pedestrians while she was driving off -- she wasn't looking where she was going. More than a glance. There was a recent case where...

    I was gobsmacked

There's "making a mistake" and there's "attempting to intimidate people with a tonne and half of metal". In my imperfect world those are two extremely different things.

There's no place for aggression when you're operating a piece of heavy machinery.

    Education system problem

Serious chronic chest pain is a bit more than "a twinge", though, no? Maybe if you'd been to the GP when you were 13 you wouldn't have had to put up with that for 34 years? There's a natural tendency to not want to bother people with things, but doctors are there to bother with things :)

London - Would you commute by bike?

69 pedestrians were killed in London last year. I'd take my chances on a bike.

Sources for and replacing halogen downlighters

Our whole upstairs is done with these: http://www.downlightsdirect.co.uk/gu10- ... ition.html with 3.5W 3000k bulbs. Been very impressed -- considering they're drawing less than 10% of the power of halogens they're very bright. Had no idea how many we'd need so erred on the side of caution...

    New retro-tinged ebook

I can't tell how many people from here have bought it, but many thanks whoever you are -- at the time of writing it's at number one in its category. And I've sold a couple of copies in France and Germany, so I hereby declare it to be an "international best-seller" :)

Best of luck Jon. Have to say that being made redundant was pretty positive for me. Not at the time, but it was the kick up the bum I needed ;)

    New retro-tinged ebook

This is a blatant plug, but I've sought permission 8) I've compiled all the articles I wrote for Privateer magazine into a handy Kindle-flavoured ebook. It's 14 articles (which are now chapters) and apparently 146 pages (obviously depends a bit on your exact device/font size/phase of moon)...
