    26" touring forks advice....

Hamster, That's my intent for the Hawk Hill Frame I've got in the garage a bombproof trek/tour long distance bike. I agree with you, the lower end Marins are more suited to loaded touring work having heavier gauge Tange tubing throughout. Once you've loaded 30kg of supplies onto the bike the...

    26" touring forks advice....

My set-up is a handlebar "Bardale" [Karrimor... 1981!!] and rear Iberian panniers which are large [too large]. I load all my valuables and heavies in the Bardale and just have sleeping bag/clothes/stove etc in the rear panniers. My tent sits on the rear rack. The advantage of the bardale is that...

    Marin knowledge sought...

Hi Lostcause, just to confirm that the bike is one or two up from base model which was Bolinas Ridge or Hawk Hill, I am surprised that it's triple butted however the steel bikes were slightly out of fashion. I would think the V-brakes are an after-fit at this range level/time, I'd guess 98/99...

    The British bike thread

I never had a chopper and felt really left out/deprived as a child - and then I rode one. A friend had one and gave me a shot, they really were [for something that was the hearts desire of every 10/11 yr old then] god awful to ride. That seemed to be an antidote and I never craved again or...

    The British bike thread

OK, mine posted previously in threads here abouts : 1981 Carlton Corsair, owned from new: And the more recently acquired 1977 Claud Butler Velox S: Nice GB classics as a tourer and road bike, I also have the Wester Ross, but it's a work in progress.....

    Today's Ride

Took the Corsair out yesterday, Garmin tells me it was -3C, felt it. Just out along Deeside where Wednesday nights fresh snow was visible... F15's or F22's were cruising round the Glens, caught one in the pic following. Not a bad February ride.

    1977 Claud Butler Velox S Frame 003706

It's got a new seatpost and saddle. No pictures yet as weather has been dire. I've been mainly working on parts for the Wester Ross in readiness to build up for spring ride, I would normally be skiing, but no snow here. It's extremely unusual to have had virtually no snow here in February, it's...

    My bikes.

Very nice bike Guiness, even more pristine and appealing than my CB. It'll be interesting to hear how you get on with the Campag groupset as you revitalise it.

How much is my road bike (or parts of) worth?

If my viewing is right, it's carbon fibre mainframe - Finite life. Old Alan's were Aluminium frame, Cyclocross target market. It does look a lovely bike but I wouldn't dare to suggest a value.

    Today's Ride

If it's any consolation moonlite, I've got a matching set in INNOX stainless in my left fib plus a couple of pins in the ankle - Alps 1982. Make sure you do push it in rehab [though it will hurt!!] and you'll get a full recovery, I was out skiing today. My best wishes to you for a full recovery. ❤️

Why do you collect retro bikes?

So to contribute here, I'm the owner of a bike I bought in 1980 [Carlton Corsair], toured it through the Scottish Highlands several times and ride it regularly - still own it, still love it. I bought a Team Marin in 1997 and use it to ride the southern Cairngorms tracks and trails, it's 27 years...
