    Highlander bike??? Fillet brazed frame

It might share common source of inspiration. But the details seem too different. The cable guide are not the same, the fillet brazed wishbone are also shaped differently. But my comment are based on basic information found on the web, so do not hesitate to challenge this 😉

I have found this ad featuring the Stronglight headset in a french mtb magazine from 1988.

Shadow of a Wheel - documentary

Hi everyone, Interesting documentary, with roots in the early 80s. I'm quoting Bikepacking.com here: “Shadow of a Wheel” is a new documentary premiering on PBS this month. The four-part series follows 31 everyday American teenagers who rode 3,600 miles across the US in 1982 to raise money for...

Saddle comfort - Turbo vs Unicanitor

Again, great feedback. Thx I often choose a saddle based on the look 😅. But I also try one or two alternatives in order to settle based on the confort. Now I will add seat angle in my criteria 👍

    Highlander bike??? Fillet brazed frame

I have found other italian brands with similar cable guide. It confirms they are generic and quite common on Italian bikes.

    Highlander bike??? Fillet brazed frame

I have very similar cable guide on a 1977 road bike, from Stelbel. It doesn't lead to the frame builder as cable guides might be generic. But it might be another clue regarding Italia. The source https://steel-vintage.com/products/stelbel-master-light-road-bike-1977

    83 Stumpjumper Resto

If moving the seatpost while holding the bike is not possible, try the other way around. The longer lever effect should make it easier. But be careful to not twist any bike parts. The intermediary solution would be to sacrificing a non valuable saddle in squeezing a long metal stick between it...

    Colnago Master

Very nice one. It reminds me of a Colnago advertised in a mtb magazine I read when I was a teenager. The square shaped horizontal tube creates a very clean design.

    Highlander bike??? Fillet brazed frame

I also had this timeline in mind. Thanks for confirming and for sharing this great scan. So 1987 seems a good spot for the Highlander bike.

    Highlander bike??? Fillet brazed frame

Btw easy way to differentiate Deore and Deore 2 is the thumb shifters. They had a large black circle on the former version. And the black circle is almost not visible on the later version.

    Highlander bike??? Fillet brazed frame

I also thought it was 87 and 88. On the Shimano website, they confirm the first Deore groupset was released in 1986.

    Highlander bike??? Fillet brazed frame

I haven't checked yet the the bottom bracket. Indeed for the bar and the seatpost is Campagnolo. I live in the south of France, so Italia is very close. It could be a good option 👍

Saddle comfort - Turbo vs Unicanitor

The groupset is Deore MT60, with the first generation of Deore MT60 thumb shifters. So it's 1986 or 1987 I think. The Italian bar is a good clue indeed. As well as the Campagnolo seat post. No name found on the dropouts. But I should check again.
