    I will try a new cable. When I had the hood back I was surprised to see the plastic thumb paddle directly pushed the metal toothed ring around! surely not great having plastic on metal(!)

    Here's mine on the sliding rail, great as you can compress them together (with bikes top-tailed) to get some more space in the garage. and the carriages are just box steel with cheapo hooks with a bolt threaded on, roll pins for axles and bearings for wheels
