    Overburys hybrid - fillet Columbus

I didn't win this ! I had a very close look at this bike and it raised a number of questions . Firstly its a hybrid ie. it has 700c wheels , in fact Mavic Module 4 rims laced to Shimano Deore Q/R hubs with rustless spokes . The rims are really quite old , and why not stainless spokes like...

Overburys cycle shop , Bristol CTC in the 70's .............. any memories

In the course of researching the history of Overburys cycle shop , I found that during the early 1970's when the shop was owned by Enid and Arthur Powell , the local CTC branch used to meet there before starting off on their Thursday evening rides . If anyone can confirm this , or indeed has...

    Fitting an extra bottle cage

M5 rivnuts ( steel in a steel frame ) are required . Recommended drill size is 7mm which is not always in a standard drill set , you might be better off anyway opening out a 6mm hole to get a better fit . I would practice setting a rivnut on a scrap piece of mild steel sheet before you drill...

    General 90s MTB Sizing Range?

Looking at the intersections of the down and top tubes with the head tube , you clearly have 3 small frames a small/medium and a medium Why don't you sit on them yourself and create your own sizing chart ? hopefully with the help of some shorter/taller friends you could get an idea of the...

1996 Marin Eldridge grade component advice

I have just realised that the special headset spacer/adaptor is only 10mm thick ( previously thought it was 15mm ) If you remove the existing brake hanger entirely and replace it with a fork mounted hanger , you may have sufficient steerer tube insertion in the stem , otherwise fit an extender...

1996 Marin Eldridge grade component advice

The Mac Ride Child Bike Seat does not come into contact with any of the main frame tubes It is fastened at the front to a special headset spacer ( see original post ) and at the rear to the base of the seat post . In effect doubling up the top tube of the frame . The proposed new upright riding...

1996 Marin Eldridge grade component advice

This looks like a sound basis for your intended use . Presuming you have some basic tools I would proceed as follows : Remove the aheadset top cap and measure the internal diameter of your steerer tube . Purchase a BBB Ahead Stem Extender in a suitable size ( see Amazon ) Remove the existing...

The strange story of the bike that never was !

Several weeks later I had a reply , it reads as follows : Sorry for the late response . This is going back a while ! As I remember at that time * I was looking for a new mountain bike but there wasn't a great deal of choice . I wanted something with quality components . I then came across...

The strange story of the bike that never was !

This is a true story , some names/places have been changed to protect the innocent Some time ago I came across this freehand sketch . I understand that it was found in the partially collapsed remains of the former Overburys workshop The sketch measuring 37 x 42cms is in a poor faded...

Nothin’ new in t’ world - linkage forks...

For information , the Pirate Bike Design ( later also known as PBD ) mentioned above was the trading name of Florian Wiesmann who initially made V - Brakes at his own workshop in Switzerland and went on to design the full suspension bike shown above . This would date to late 1993 through 1994

V - Brake evolution ? an unlikely original source

Before this topic disappears into the pages of history , I have researched all of the claims made above and give you the results as follows : Looking closely at the the major cycle brands of the 1920's and 30's typically Hirondelle , Schulz , Reyhand , Uldry , Longoni and Integral there is not...

V - Brake evolution ? an unlikely original source

Hopefully this photo will give a better idea of the proportions of this incredibly neat 50cc twin cylinder motorbike which did so much to promote the use of small multi cylinder engines in motorcycles for years to come

V - Brake evolution ? an unlikely original source

In case you have not noticed ' joglo ' has added a new photo to his original post which shows the Honda without the fairing Also an interesting piece ( now translated ) regarding Florian Wiesmann and his innovative early design of ' Wie ' ( V ) brake

V - Brake evolution ? an unlikely original source

Exactly ! With the exception of the Bontrager , all the other offerings are disqualified !!!!!!!! The cable routing was achieved by 'clamping' the outer to the LH arm and the adjustable inner to the RH arm but without the need for a noodle as there was plenty of room to give a generous curve to...

V - Brake evolution ? an unlikely original source

While watching the Giro this evening it was interesting to note that the disc brake has almost entirely taken over as the braking system of choice in this area of cycling . It is generally thought that the successful use of the disc brake in motorcycling led to the adoption of the same system...

Tightening locknuts on Deore DX pedals - drat and nuts?!

It appears that there are at least two different versions of the Shimano Pedal Adjustment Tool The one we have been concerned with here is the TL-PD 63 to suit a 10mm cone nut with an 7mm locking nut OR an 11mm cone nut with an 8mm locking nut having respective OD's of 12mm and 14.5mm There...

Tightening locknuts on Deore DX pedals - drat and nuts?!

It would be useful to know exactly which pedals you are referring to ? We do know that the 8mm/11mm end of the Shimano Tool TL-PD63 fits in the PD-M650 ( DX ) pedals as described above . I have also used the same tool on PD-M735 ( XT ) pedals ( though I can't remember which end )
