I´ve had those, they are indeed good shifters. they also had a plastic lever version that becomes brittle and breaks. Have you ever tried their newer Version (newer as in 30 yrs ago)?

As written, the later XTR FD M952 is 9 speed, it appears that the 9 speed shimano derailleurs have narrower cages compared to the 8sp, by about a 1mm Ish. Therefore M900 etc front derailleur should swap around the same like the M950.
