    Hope headset removal - Problem

Looked on CRC to check out the tool, says it's for 1-1/8th inch only. Eh? My solution to use it for 1-1/2 inch headsets would be to flare it out a bit more. As has been said a tool to do both would need to be able to fit through 1-1/8th bearings. I'd get the 1-1/8th only, aye right, don't see...

    Hope headset removal - Problem

Are you talking about the tool that is basically a 300mm -ish steel tube with 4 slots cut in one end that is flared out? I made one from 1" diameter steel tube, cut 4 slots about 6" long, flared it out so it would positively engage the headset inside head-tube. Has worked fine on several 1-1/8th...

    And today I did......

As Keith said, nice bike but you do know that here endeth your retro bike riding as you'll enjoy your new modern bike too much...... Ask me how I know. Never mind though the above post shows others are still on or just starting out on the retro trail with not one but 2 bikes. Braw.

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

I thought of that but 27.2mm droppers are designed for "gravel" bikes and had insufficient drop for a proper MTB. The dropper I have on the Sonder Transmitter is 125mm, due to bike being a small that's the max, so I wanted the same for Wolf Ridge. There's plenty of wall thickness to be reduced...

    Mini wheeled Marin monstrosity

Had that happen with the bike I rode in my teens, not a BMX way earlier than them, it had a fixed wheel so no option when cornering to stop pedalling when leaned over. Good number of aaaargh moments. Think with this one though it will strike its pedals going in straight line. Think how when...

    Mini wheeled Marin monstrosity

Think he's selling that to buy more drugs..... He's also butchered the front shock mount, cut off original hole then re-drilled it, why FFS? Longer shock? Not like it will need ALL the suspension travel it previously had. It gets compressed much and those pedals will be sparking off the road...

    2000 Marin Mount Vision Build

I have a 98/00 Wolf Ridge which I took the swingarm off to put on my wife's Wild Cat Trail as it had a brake mount that required Marin's weird caliper mount and the Wolf Ridge's swingarm was I.S. , this was several years ago. When I came to build up the Wolf Ridge I used the WCT's swingarm as I...

Super Vs - why so unloved?

I have a team blue Super V 1000SL. Got it off someone on here. Always wanted one but couldn't afford or justify the cost when new. When I bought the frame it had a Headshok and the cast and glued aluminium swingarm that was prone to cracking and it was cracked. Got a CAAD4 swingarm from a...

Getting the swingarm off a 2000 Marin B17.

Why do you want to take swingarm off? The spindle may be stuck in bearings after all this time but you don't want to hit it with hammer. Have you taken out bolts at both ends? One is an Allen bolt with steel washer the other end is a countersunk head Allen bolt in an aluminium washer with a...

What do do about stretched binder bolt lugs

I'd also say that they wouldn't be angled in towards each other, my 531c steel roadie with similar lugs are parallel. If the correct size of post is fitted, when the bolt is tightened the gap should not close up very much, that it has is an indication, as has been said, that bolt has needed to...

    These Floating Rotors Any Good?

Not personal experience but I remember someone asking about this, on this site maybe, having this problem with a known make of disc, a used one, a Hope possibly. They were advised to use 2 big ball-bearings that would fit in the big rivets and squeeze the rivet between the ball-bearings in a...

What do do about stretched binder bolt lugs

Did you bend the lugs back before trying to fit the 27.2 mm post? If not it could be binding because seat-tube is crimped in. I've bent out similar lugs on a bike by opening the gap between lugs with a screwdriver till you can fit in a really big screwdriver, jamming it into gap between lugs and...

What do do about stretched binder bolt lugs

Whether it's the wrong diameter post or not, the bolt should not be tightened to the point it deforms the seat-tube. The lugs themselves won't be bent but the part of seat-tube they are brazed to so that the seat-tube is bent in to grip seatpost. Carefully bend them back till there is a parallel...

Righty, OK. Mibbees be the Marin though, it feels a bit "more modern". The F800 with the Lefty definitely feels more dated after riding the modern geo Transmitter.
