1961 Claud Butler Challenge (picture heavy)

I'm pretty certain Peachy has qualifications in the field of education that he's not telling us about but yes I often forget people use phones for the internet which limit what you see so apologies for that. And yes life long fan of the Falcons up to and including those form from Brigg here...

1961 Claud Butler Challenge (picture heavy)

It needs a lot more work so will be a summer project but people don't like Falcons? You might want to check the number I have in my Signature.

1961 Claud Butler Challenge (picture heavy)

I'm hoping so Jamie, Got to get my head round restoring a Brooks saddle now which I've not done before, although if I can just get it useable I'll be happy. Updating my signature I've noticed I have quite a stable of Claud's now, five in fact which is only beaten in numbers by Falcon in my...

1961 Claud Butler Challenge (picture heavy)

I picked up a couple of scruffy steel framed machines yesterday. The guy that owned them had posted pictures of them on the Facebook vintage bikes group and asked for opinions on value where he of course got a very wide range of answers. As he was local I asked what he actually wanted for them...

    Dawes Bike Identification Grame 531.

I've got exactly the same bike in the same colours with the same bits in the garage and did some searching to try and find out the model name once but never actually got it pinned down. Best I could trace it to was possibly a Renown from the early 80's (1981 to 1984). I know its definitely not...

    Anyone into classic cars

Keep that e38 in that condition and it will pay you back in spades and I'd keep an eye on the e65/66's they're starting to get a lot more love over here and prices are rising accordingly. They are at that crossroads now where people buy them thinking they're cheap but having no understanding of...

    Anyone into classic cars

I see your E38 money pit and raise you an e66 one. I'm a serial BMW owner (3 currently) and had an e32 750Li many years ago and loved it so bought this e66 745Li on a whim as a Sunday car. It was absolutely no money, I've learnt all the horror stories about them after I bought it and so far...

    1968 - Worksop - Sun Snipe Plus..

Very nice Spokesman, I've always wanted a Chris Barber Sun. I have a replica jersey and cap and a friend went to see Chris Barbers Jazz band before his passing and got the cap autographed for me, he said it did raise a smile when he produced it and asked for it to be signed.

    1968 - Worksop - Sun Snipe Plus..

Very nice and a great story, as has been said the personal stories are always the most interesting. I've always liked a Sun myself which probably comes from childhood but being a little younger than you by the time I was riding them they would have been a little older and more used. I...

1997/8 Decathlon Cobra 540 Columbus tubed

A bit later I know but I've got a 105 equipped B'twin with carbon forks and rear stays in the garage, it's a very nicely made thing and was great value used so must of been new but sadly I can't get on with the modern frame geometry no matter how I set the saddle and bars so its had very little...

1962 Claud Butler Cordon Bleu #14064 FINISHED Pg6

That's come out very nice indeed. And black Bluemels mudguards. There I was sorting through the garage last weekend finding all the bits for one of my cars that's going in a week or two and what do I find? A pair of black Bluemels mudguards that's what.

Carbon forks, suggestions for keeping them in one bit?

Thanks but its a big frame so I need a long steerer, that ones 300mm from memory

Carbon forks, suggestions for keeping them in one bit?

Basically the frame came with the wrong forks (alloy instead of carbon) and I managed to find one set of carbon forks for it but the steerer had already been cut down and is currently about 20mm too short.

Carbon forks, suggestions for keeping them in one bit?

Ok Thanks for that. I did expect that would be the case but finding a suitable set has been a mission so I didn't want to give up on them if they could be saved.

Carbon forks, suggestions for keeping them in one bit?

Hello All. I don't usually stray into this section of the forum because, well most of my bikes struggle to get out of the 1980's let alone anywhere near the turn of the century. Anyhow I'm after some advice that is probably better served here. I have a modernish bike that I needed to get forks...

    Late 70s Frenchman

You're not the only one, I'd probably do the same but also wonder how original the rear mech is, some of them and especially the Svelto's had a nasty habit of wrapping themselves into themselves so you might want to look for date stamps. It drew me in like a flame

    Late 70s Frenchman

Ooh I like that, Durifort 888 and braze on Mafacs very French indeed and yes definitely no need for anything other then a clean and a better saddle.

    Raleigh ID

I was thinking the same about 23, I'd take small as 19 or 20 for a steel frame, either way they're a very nice tourer.

Resto or retro - that is the question

If you're wedded to Falcon don't discount the later Tange based frames, the Majorca is a nice riding frame and the Professional is superb.

    Help with Frame ID

I don't think its a Dawes (Milk Race) or a Falcon, the rear drop out looks wrong for both of those. The more I look at it the more I think French but not sure what.
