    Just bought a Carlton Giro

The Super Course came in different flavours over the years. The last version in the 1980 guise which is the one I have was all 531. It is a lovely bike to ride.

I would not really know the answer to that but the one I might still be tempted by is the Team Professional MK3 or MK4 The MK5 is nice too but I fancy the victor seat stay configuration of the 3 or 4. Having said that I rather like my little quirky collection.

Hi BOBU sorry must have misread your message. Pocket rocket is a WD-40 alternative same sort of stuff basically a lubricant. The aluminium foil is soft and seems to work by removing very thin layers without scratching the paint. So all the rust bust though paint gets removed leaving often only a...

Lovely looking bike, I am already fond of mine. The one bit I would change is the saddle I don't love the one on mine. Still waiting on the Christmas present...a Lepper Tourer Saddle if I am lucky. I did have a little spin last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Also got the news that I need a...

Is this lost or a bargain

I saw it and thought that looks odd. It is huge as well so maybe of interest to someone. It didn't seem to make sense to me a bit like one of those Victorian made up animals where they sewed animals together to make oddities.

I thought the tyres would be good for at least a ride so added pressure to 95psi and both stayed up for about a minute and then let go. On inspection the tyres were OK the inner tubes were OK until they holed but the rim tape had literally fallen to pieces. Apparently inner tube and box section...

I will get a Lepper Tourer saddle that is a natural leather colour to fit in with the bar tape but my darling wife mentioned a Christmas present might happen to take care of that. I now have a new to me bike to try and my shoulder is not quite right yet but hopefully will be close enough for a...

    Just bought a Carlton Giro

Well I have added bar tape and if this works entirely I will be surprised but it looks interesting with the rust arrested and removed from the paintwork and a coat of lacquer a bit of polishing but only a little. The front brake hanger was just rust coloured but aluminium WD40 equivalent...

A question for the Carlton enthusiasts

There are loads of catalogues here http://carltoncycles.uk/1939-sports-catalogue/ In the 1939 catalogue there is the Polo and the Tourist with straightish bars. There were also a few others pre-war. There were some with 3 speed drums as well. I did like the 20 year warranty offered back then.

I have to say the seat post geometry seems to make little difference to me my position seems to stay the same in relation to the bottom crank. The saddle is just set further back or forward to keep that relationship. The Super Course in my case has a bigger frame by miles and the Corsa is a tiny...

The frames are not the same the Super Course was built on a 74 degrees geometry and was all 531 tubes. The Record Ace on 73 degree geometry. The Corsa was a 72 degrees and Truwel. The Giro might be 73 degrees and some is 531 tubing.

Not too many stops on that route then! Superb pace to keep up for 7 miles.

Not setting any records is one thing I can say I am quite good at. Except personal records I can break those every now and then. I also can safely say that I thoroughly enjoy every bike ride.

The 1981 Record Ace model uses the same lugs as my Super Course and has the brake cable routing along the top of the top tube like mine.

    Just bought a Carlton Giro

Seems I am no Merckx My happy place on the chart below is flat road no wind assistance 103.6 inches, in a decent headwind the 89.8 inch gear is very useful, downhill I love that big gear 122.5 or with a good following wind. I can usually get the 37 inch one up most hills. I always like to have...

So having rubbed and then used some vinegar and rubbed some more I then cleaned and gave it it a quick coat of lacquer. This highlighted the imperfections but I quite like the effect providing I have killed the rust. I also discovered that the 700 wheels will just squeeze into my Corsa frame and...

Well had a little play with pocket rocket and aluminium foil on the paint. After about 2 minutes it had done this. Will do some more like this then treat with rust converter and see what it looks like. What surprised me is that while it is definitely moving the rust off the paint it is not...
